z4m sprint championship on going times/progression..

cars nearly finished.... what a nightmare job this has been.

this will get some tongues wagging, but after spending time under the car, its so close to being super mint underneath this winter I'm going to store it on stands and completely strip the underside and Re-power coat everything or replace. Nice easy winter job. :-)

Sounds good mate

ok so I'm just re-polishing the RPI cans, then just need to bolt up the reinforcement plates and I'm good to go....

i did a quick start up and apart from a large amount of packing oil being burnt off and stinking out the garage, all seems well with no leaks, the CATS need a good run now to coke them up and put a decent heat cycle into them..... i have a 6 hour round trip for work on wednesday, weather permitting ill take the z4 with me, as preventative work while i was under their i replaced quite a few rusty bolts , changed ALL exhaust gaskets and also changed the post CAT o2 sensors...

the stock cat piece is worth around 800 quid in america so will ship it over and hopefully make some money back, then... the big test.. will the car pass emissions??? hmm I'm not to sure... it will be close as they LOOKED so free flowing ...

i will try and get some video clips for you guys soon, i wonder how much volume has been added, the stock cats were very restrictive compared to what I've put on....

Good work buddy  And your winter project sounds like a worthy one. I am planing similar but the top side. I will be stripping and spraying mine. Do i stick with silver or change????? I am thinking leave it as it was made.

Also i feel your pain with the emissions. I have spent hours building my car for track use. Building a really light weight quad for mine. And it seems it will be to loud for most tracks :headbang: :headbang:

so this tiny little 100 cell race car are in, large bore S-pipe with harmonic tabs.... and...

wow...... the noise, the sheer velocity of the noise, deep and pure exotic, sounds like a proper old school S-6 now... very very much TVR sound... when it comes on boost it just sounds crazy, completely anti social. the car really feels like its breathing better and i can really feel a bump up in Tq just as id hoped... The cats are as i suspected so free flowing and small in actual material the car basically sounds like a straight pipe setup, its insane.... no CEL, no issues, perfect alignment, and my DKF adjustable exhaust hanger made getting the rear mufflers lined up a breeze....

i have a huge grin on my face..... huge....

i NEED to get a recording of this for you guys....

Even louder now than before? I presume so yes? Any added rasp or drone?

definitely louder, more drone , no more rasp... its sounds like a straight pipe setup. when the boost comes in.... its insane, part of me its really wanting some quiet mufflers now but.. the other half of me says.... its a weekend toy, enjoy the drama.

More drone means it's a definite no-go for me. RPIs drone enough as it is! Perhaps with a different set of cans? DKF's own?

I agree tbh.... i won't actively buy a new quiet set of cans but if something came up used I'd probably jump on them.

This is why I have returned my exhaust to (more or less) standard; the extra few horsepower and saving of a few kgs are not much use if you can't actually get on track.

Still have a Supersprint manifold and sports cats, but everything else is stock.

I understand why you did so.... The 100 cell cats seem so free flowing enough to offer literally no sound suppression, reminds me of a complete decat, combined with already ear bleeding rpi it's just a bit nuts , it sounds... Incredible can't stress how awesome it spunds. .. but it's just too loud for me, ill see how I feel, I'm hoping it quietens alittle. The s54 is a strange cookie when it comes to exhausts and has a natural drone and resonance, after market exhaust just bring it all out.

Exhausts are definitely a conundrum. Standard items are so expensive (and heavy) that you can readily understand people looking for alternatives. At the same time I understand people who like a bit more noise, but noise levels are becoming such an issue for tracks everywhere that I don't thnk it is worth taking a risk, particularly IF you want to do track days.

Well I've just put my stock section one up for sale so hopefully this may help me pay for some quieter rear boxes.

KKS?

Be careful with titanium exhausts, they can crack over time as I've found out in the past.

Alittle sneak from this morning
