Z4M or 35is ?

Guys,
I am undecided between the two above. Have any of you come from the M, and are you happy you changed or would want the M back ideally ?

Just as it is the best and fastest available in the range, manual or automatic is fine with me. It will be a weekend toy only.

As srhutch points out , there really is little to compare the ZM with any E89 , the newer car offers creature comfort , modern looks & a fine cabin but loses out in driver connection & ownership enthusiasm for the ///M brand .
If you do go the 89 route i would try both DCT & manual & remember that a remap soon puts the 35i ahead of the "Is" in terms of poke :driving:

So no one goes from M to IS then ?

I much prefer the looks and contemporary vibe of the IS but have not driven it. The M is like a go cart, so enjoyable to throw around.

...my daily is a RS6, hence both these are more chuckable I am guessing

I have had an M roady,M coupe and a 35is.

E8x and E89 are very different.. It really does depend what you want.

If you want to get in,and go very quickly with minimum of fuss then get a 35is and have it mapped,400 bhp is easily achievable.

The DCT is great, they go around corners well with the EDC and the exhaust sounds very nice as standard on the Is....

An M coupe is a beautiful car, very special and still bring good money.I dare say the only downsides are the poor ride quality and it will cost considerably more to run than a 35is..

The M roady is much the same, but 3rd on my list...

I would vote for the Z4M if is the second car - 35i/35is are quite refined driving experience IMOA.

E89 is a built to be a cruiser, it's quicker than Z4M - but the Z4M is more driver-focused.

As said above, go for a test drive and see what you prefer

All I can say is... If it's weekend smiles per mile your after then go for the rag top ///M. :D :driving:

Thanks guys, I think I get it...I am kinda leaning towards the IS for looks.

So if the M is a 10/10 on the "fun scale" as an example,.... Then what would the IS score ?šŸ¤”

"Fun" in this scenario means ability to grab it by the scruff of the neck and drive/ get the back out type stuff on twisty roads

As you already have a powerful weekly cruiser, I would personally be tempted by the M for a contrast. It would offer a different driving experience for the weekend toy, but a nice choice either way.

The M is like a go-cart. I've had 2 Z4MC and it's fun as hell.
I haven't driven the IS that much since I bought last fall but it's fun in another way as well.
I have ESS stage 1 so around 400HP/550NM and NO turbolag and the sound is actually good for beeing a turbo.

I wanted a more mature car since the E89.

The looks = The E89 wins comparing front ends. The E86 wins comparing the rear end.
Drive the manual/DCT but DCT is fantastic. I had a M6 E63 Before and the SMG3 vs DCT = night and day.

I went from the Z4M Coupe to a 35i DCT and have no regrets. I love the DCT! :D
(PS I did change the springs and front & rear ARBs to Eibach on the E89 though which improved the handling a lot!)

Estoril blue

I have a C7 RS6 avant as a daily and also have a 35is for my mid life crisis roof down moments. It's so much more refined and relevant than the e85, the gearbox is awesome, the hardtop roof gives you a great mix of roof down potential and decent road noise reduction when its up. Handling wise I never find myself desiring much more from the platform. Sure the M is mildly more fun in testing conditions, but unless you are driving round a race track 24x7 the experience is rather dated.
