Results of INPA

Looks just about ok, I believe DIS gives a tolerance of - / + 5 on the nominal values given to the actual values of your car so maybe a bit off target but to be expected if you’ve never had a vanos refresh

What's the big differences? Looks fine to me?
Though I would suggest the DIS test is better but that still seems ok to me

Ah I see, missed that one. Strange, but DIS gives a target value of less than 500 milliseconds for both of those results.

Advance adjustment (or 'early' on yours) should be around 194ms
Retard adjustment ('late') should be around 294ms

Maybe just an anomaly? Run it a few more times making sure engine is fully warmed up, and try on DIS if you've got it. I guess that could indicate a fault but I wouldn't read too much into yet. No other error codes? Doesn't seem right it would be exactly the same adjustment time as the inlet, I've known INPA to not be wholly accurate at times.

we done 3 in the end, all numbers stayed the same (give or take) but the one circled and one below read:

1:
195
195

2:
295
295

3:
195
295

If those figures fall within the tolerance, I reckon it's the TPS then, given the errors below. Once cleared it didn't report again, until I drove it. Then I only got 2D07. I'm going to order 2 TPS', as the error below looks like it's both. Replace one, see how it goes...

I also had this, when I first started yesterday, let it run for 3 minutes, turned off and back on and they went away...

Hmmm, I wouldn't expect a 2D07 fault to be cam position sensor tbh - could be, just wouldn't be top of my list. More likely the throttle position sensor (there are two of them though, one is easy to get to; the other requires the intake to come off to access). Otherwise, the throttle actuator itself, but that's an expensive part so would be the last thing to replace if a 2D07 (and related) codes are the only ones you are getting.

I would also add though that those symptoms are exactly the sort of thing you get with a bad coil pack or plug - just doesn't tie in with the error codes. Unless the two are not related of course.

Not sure if you're reading it 100%. I have ordered 2x TPS as a precaution, I will swap 1 at a time as my first change. The Vanos was mentioned here (or else where, I've read so much!) so thought it worth checking. It seems fine.

So TPS, or coil pack/plugs. I will get the TPS' tomorrow, and play with them. Sparks/coils are available at my local ECP, so will venture to that if the TPS' don't help.

Ah, yes sorry - I was replying from page 1! Anyway, sounds like you are on the right track.

Last minute work before lemans tomorrow!

Think it’s fixed with the hidden throttle position sensor.

Will update once I’ve had a good drive.

Thanks all!

Total job was 1hour 20 mins. I still need to do the clips back up, as I don’t have the tool, I’ll buy it tomorrow. But they weren’t that hard, with some bulky pliers.

1 of them was a bastard due to pipes in the way.

Sounds like a result Sam, glad I mentioned getting a tps just in case after my initial diagnosis
Have a great trip to Le Mans, very jealous!

If any of the clips have bust you could do worse than do what most people do and replace them with the jubilee type used in the M5.

I have tomorrow off, so I will see what BMW have in stock, it's only a mile from home! If not, I'll maybe get some jubilee clips to be safe. Probably cheaper than getting the tool to do up the BMW clips anyway!

You were right with the TPS. It's also the cheapest part, £80, vs the £130 for each intake/exhaust sensor. I'm going to take the spare one I purchased with me. May sound silly, as I've replaced it, but I have it, may as well!

Might be a little premature as I'm guessing you haven't actually tried it yet with the new TPS, but fingers crossed. You can get away with stainless jubilees on the throttle bodies but you have to be EXTREMELY careful where the worm gear bit of the jubilees sit in relation to the throttle actuator bar, otherwise they can clash at full throttle opening.

I did run it for a few mins, but the clips were loosely doneup. I’ve just purchased some better pliers, so will do them up proper and go for a spin!

Jebus, those clips are mental hard. Should have purchased the proper tool. I found some long nose flat pliers, worked well, but it's so tight you can't really hold the clip in place. Then there are the screws they keep getting caught on. With some patience I was able to do all 6, I had to keep walking away due to frustration!

Anyway, an hours blast and I can confirm the problem is fixed. Lower TPS (under air inlet) seemed to be the problem. Not sure if it's a placebo, but it seems to pull better.

Thanks for all the help and advice.
