I’ve just gone for the Eisenmann exhaust.
Read a lot of views on exhausts on the forum and listened to you tube clips but a lot are videos from phones with not the greatest sound quality.
I’ve just fitted an Eventuri intake to my M and definitely impressed with intake sound.
Got a 4-6 week wait for the exhaust atm.

I have a full Supersprint Race cat back system being removed from my Z4MC tomorrow. These 3 parts:

Covered around 6k miles since new. Would be looking for £700

How loud do you want it? I have no mufflers and it's loud but sounds incredible, pure race car at high revs but most people can't deal with it. Remus is a good option if you want slightly louder than stock.

Did you go sports or race? I got sports and it wasn't all that loud, very comparable Remus and just a tad louder than stock. Now that I had paired it with an RE x-pipe and it's nearly perfect...although a tiny bit louder would be perfect. Perhaps I should have gone straight to race and save some money on the x-pipe? I got scared off on "race" because my previous supersprint "race" was LOUD and that was just with the cans and everything else stock!

OP - exhaust sound is a very personal thing. Without being able to listen to a setup in person, it's mostly going to be trial & error type of thing. I had read all the various forums and listened to all those Youtube videos and I still went through 4 different setup:

1. Supersprint Race +OE resonator: Too loud and "droney".
2. Remus Sports + OE resonator: Barely louder than stock (not loud enough), but good tone.
3. Eisenmann Sports + OE resonator: Barely louder than Remus Sports (not loud enough).
4. Eisenmann Sports + RE x-pipe: Almost perfect (90% there for me).

I have these for sale if of interest..

[ref]jonstar[/ref], lately ive been wondering how my roadster would sound with straight pipes. I'm even toying with the idea of simply removing the mufflers and tale it for a drive to hear how it sounds.
How did you go about getting straight pipes fitted? I mean, is this something that any tyre and exhaust replacement garage can do? Is any special fitter required? How much was the whole thing, fitted? Just have an idea on budget.
Lastly, do you have any sound clip of video?
Tia.

You would need a custom exhaust place to get it done generally £300+ all in. This will give you an idea of the sound excuse the crappy vid. Beware it is very loud though, I wouldn't dream of having this setup on a daily.

RPi if you want it loud.

Supersprint, Eisenmann or Remus if you want more than stock but still relatively tamed.

Would recommend changing just the rear boxes as opposed to an entire system also.

A better option for this is to install exhaust valves like me and a few other have done, well me and Fishy Dave anyway!
They go before the mufflers so when you open them it’s basically straight piped and when you want peace and quiet you can close them up with the remote control and all is normal.
Valves are only cheap, £80-90 for 2 and yes they are cheap for a reason so don’t expect to impress anyone with them from an aesthetics or engineering point of view, though a lot of garages I’ve been to have approved! Installed probably costs about £200 - 300 along with the wiring needed at a guess, luckily Dave did my wiring for me, top man!

They are obscene when open, don’t expect to win the public’s approval out and about, or the Police’s for that matter! If your out for a drive on your own though in the country it’s good fun, I use sparingly personally, or just have them open a little bit for a bit of extra noise without being a total yob!

Just an option to consider! (I don’t have any videos yet, sorry. They wouldn’t do it justice anyway tbh!)

[ref]AndyBeech[/ref], thanks for your comprehensive reply.
I know how video recordings never make justice in terms of sound fidelity, but it'd still be good to hear /see them in action. I always thought those valves were a fully open / fully close setup. When you say 'have them open a little bit' can these valves be regulated??
Thanks again

Yep valves are a good option but I just didn't want the additional complication and couldn't deal with the look of it. I think the valved system is a muffler delete when open and stock when not? I love the noise personally, as do most people I've spoken to, in reality it sounds very similar to RPI's just a bit more gruff. Mine were measuring about 103db at 4500rpm right by the exhaust, which isn't really that bad tbh, but it depends on what your used to.

I have an einesmann race on my car, it’s still being worn in burn for me it the perfect sound level and pitch. Paired with my eventuri intake I very happy with the balance. I could see why a sport would be too quite.
Both the super sprints offered are for sale at a good price. Maybe go for one of them

Dang it - should have went with Eisenmann Race to begin with

Supersprint - depends on which one you go with. Supersprint Race is LOUD and is on par with RPi! Supersprint Powerloop (Sports) is similar, if not slightly louder than Eisenmann Sports...just different tone (Powerloop is more bassy)

A friend has the Remus cat back system on his M. It sounds lovely.

Quite noticeably compared to stock, but far from intrusive.

My car already had Powerflow back boxes on when I bought it so I can't help with cost, but I'm very pleased with how it sounds!
