Z4M Coupe v's Porsche 911 (964)

Had a bit of an interesting "spirited rive" across 40 miles of the Highlands and mountain roads with an older Porsche 964 (3.6) C2. It was a great laugh but I noticed that the almost 20 year old car was as quick on the straights almost and perfectly planted on the bends at the limit. I was really surprised the Z4M didn't have a bit more grunt in comparison. Although I could keep up and was biting at the heels, I wouldn't have been able to pass the porker. Really suprised me that such an old car (and must be much lighter) was so good!
The oh-so-crucial piece of hardware between the steering wheel and the seat not withstanding ... most 911's are engineered as race cars then toned down for the streets, whereas BMWs are generally engineered and built for the streets then tuned for a little racing.

I sooooo wished my banking account could afford a 4S.

A 997? The 996 C4S's are great value at the moment but mind you so are the 35k 997 C2S....

I guess in this economy, to be able to afford a 997 would be great. But back to reality ... a 996 would be very nice. However, I'm not a big fan of the Boxter front-end. It looks cheap, just like the Boxter itself, what I call "the poor man's Porsche". A 993 on the other hand, has more the 911 look, but as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also heard the 996 is not the best of Porsche, and if possible to skip it.

Its maybe a little stereo typing but has been proven in a case study that the vast amount of people who say
just like the Boxter itself, what I call "the poor man's Porsche"
Tend never to have driven a Boxster or any Porsche for that matter and have a very small c*ck.

Its very sterotype mind but makes you think though......

Paul :headbang: N

Ps Spelling is never their strong point either.......

Boxster is a great car and the front end is mostly the same parts as the 997 to keep costs down :D

Personally I've been lucky enough to own both a 996 GT3 and Box 987 and the Boxster is a fantastic mid-engined sports car, especially the 3.2/3.4 S. Funnily enough my 2.7 Box when new cost more than a few of the 997S on the market at the moment!

Porsche is a great brand and with the exception of the Cayenne (just my opinion), their cars all feel bit special, particularly the GT3. The Z4M Coupe though is very exciting to drive and great value. It doesn't ground out on hills like the GT3 and feels very special and raw which I like. Faster than the 997 and 997S round the Ring too I believe..... 8)

Your mother said it felt just fine, other than her kidneys are very sore.

Hey, Paul, the word "it's", as in "it's maybe" or "it's very" is a contraction of the words it and is, and it has a ' between the t and s. I'm sure you knew that, didn't you?

Changed what? It reads the same as before!

Wow, how did all this start?? The Boxster is the cheapest Porker just like the Z4M is the cheapest M car. Who cares? The Boxster is the best handling Porsche imo.

Indeed, there's nothing poor about spending £50k on a car. But as you said, you bought a Boxter because you couldn't afford a real Porsche. Those are your words, not mine. I don't have anything against the mechanics of the Boxter. It seems to be worth the price. But everytime I ask a Boxter owner why she/he didn't go for a 993, 996, 997, etc, the answer is always the same: I couldn't afford it. In other words, the entry level, poor man's Porsche. That's my opnion, if I may have your permission to have one.

Yes, it does. My bad and good catch. BTW, purely is spelled like this, not purley.

'Tis not always the case. A new Box cost me 38k, same money strangely abouts as my brand new Z4M Coupe ;) For that money I could have had in today's market - a 997 C2S. Very tempting but would have been 4 years old at that price with probably no Porker warranty.... The GT3 cost 53k second hand but that's a different story and to be honest, if you didn't want a 2+2 and you wanted a Posrche, the Boxster 3.4S, especially the limted edition one just out has to be high on the list.

Would I now spend the best part of 70k on a motor - absolutely not. 911/ Fezza/ Vantage / Noooooo.

The Z4M has a lot of the rawness the GT3 Mk2 had but, with the benefit that you can actually drive it everyday without scraping the front spolier on every slightly steep hill! Didn't choose the Cayman S as it was a little bland by comparison and not a second hand 997 as that for some reason felt a bit slower than the base 997..... :o 8) :D
