Got up at 5am this morning to go over to Coniston, to what I hoped was going to be a fantastic sunrise to get some pics etc. Everyday has given a fantastic sunrise this week, with frozen fog, mist and lots of snow. But on my day off it was not to be... and the weather was very grey with not much colour. So ended up bailing at about 8.30am.
Anyway to get to Coniston Water from Penrith you either go all the way to Keswick then back on yourself toward Ambleside and Windermere. Or you can follow Lake Ulswater and go over Kirkston Pass, it is the Lake District's highest pass, has a gradient of 1 in 4 and is at an altitude of 1,489 feet (454 m). It was about -8 last night and it is pretty inhospitable in bad weather. We call it the struggle
But thought bugger it and took the Z4Mc and had a good slip slide all the way up, was great fun. On the way back was disappointed with my lack of photographs so thought id stop and take a few pics for you fellow Zd'ers.
