Thanks god, I've already mounted the US emergency grip.

But to bring this discussion to the point:
We indeed have to do some maintenance on the roof, same as for the brakes
=>
1) replace the 2 MS coupling lock every decade
2) replace the 2 salmon relays once or better twice a decade
3) check the water level BELOW and the corrosion status of the bottom of the hydraulic pump once a year or, if there is no garage, after every very heavy rain
4) finally, think about a replacement of the hydraulic loom every decade

These 4 simple(sik) steps will avoid hardly any trouble regarding the retractable hardtop of our E89.

Sounds nice, but that is the core of the problem, if the E89 owner didn't follow the above listed maintenance plan:
The roof issues will happen unplanned and will be managed by Murphy. Very specialized support is required asap, not tomorrow, neither next week, nor in mid of August. 8)

First time poster, long time follower, so hope I’ve managed to get a couple of photos up! Wouldn’t want the photo police on my case.
Keen to stay on top of roof maintenance, as RobbieZ4 suggests, already fitted new battery and salmon relays. Would like to change micro switches but would really like and need an idiots guide on how to do this and can’t seem to find one! If one has been posted could someone please point me in the right direction, feel like I’ve been searching for days! Many thanks.

1. Salmon relays > OK this is straightforward enough.

This sounds like something I'd love to do (had to sell my e46 cabrio once I kept having roof issues, so I'm motivated!)

So I think I can do 3, I have already done 2...but frankly, (not being a native english speaker) I haven't got the foggiest idea what a 'hydraulic loom' is, or where to find the '2 MS coupling lock'

Can someone guide me to understand what -exactly- I need to do (and where to find) points 1 and 4?
