Z4 roadsters have more fun ???

If I'd bought a roadster, whenever I saw a Coupe it would just be reinforcing that I'd got second best. :D

I mean, roadsters are just sooooo common that no one bats an eyelid when they see one.

The market will always decide which is the most desirable - I wonder whether the equivalent roadster or Coupe has the greatest value (rhetorical question)?

I get looks in the coupe all the time, about 90% of bikers you can see their heads swivel as we go past each other. I happen to prefer its looks, although the roadster looks good too with the top down. Nothing bitter and twisted about being in a coupe, I chose it and paid more for the privilege. There's probably more people like Matt who wanted a coupe but had to settle on a roadster.

Both are good fun and just because someone doesn't have a convertible doesn't mean they haven't experienced it or owned one before. (I had a supercharged Mk1 Eunos)

The only reason the value of a Coo Pee is a bit more than a roadster is due to the extra you get in scrap value for the metal roof and that mahoosive boot lid! :poke:

Just took my coupe out today to get it MOT'd and ready for the summer and as much as I love my roadster, I had considerably more fun in my coupe than my roadster.

Can't say I've ever taken many pics of mine with the roof up :D

Best of both worlds with a roadster, but I have to say the coupé does look good and turns more heads imo but is that because people don't recognise them as a Z4?

Not strictly true, but I like your logic. It's more down to more people choosing to buy Roadsters, per year, when they were new & the fact that the Coupe was a bit of an after thought. (If only they had fitted a Carbon Roof, but they didn't)

Anyway, back to the title, when it comes to Roadster vs Coupe, Roadster is more fun every time the sun is shining and the rest of the time there's always the daily hack. :D

There's also the well documented fact that Coo Pee drivers are considerably more likely to have what is known as an, "ugly" gene. This makes them more suited for the Coo Pee and any other cars with roofs due to their smaller heads and hunched posture.

You do get the odd owner who moves between Roadster and Coo Pee though. These owners are known as Bi-Roofers are pretty much harmless and have both the "Ugly" gene and the stronger "Good Looking Roadster Driver" gene.

Usually after a few years of ownership the Coo Pee drivers start their once in a lifetime migration over to a Porsche. After they get the Porsche life is pretty much over for them. There's a great documentary on it narrated by David Attenborough and Richard Hammond available on the AmazetflixiPrimePlayer channel if you can find it.

Certainly strange creatures and they can talk some sense sometimes on most E85 related subjects. Just don't ask them anything about roof motors and drainage holes as they can't understand it at all and it can be fatal to them.

Of course you get looks in a coupe... they're all shocked and thinking 'Who the fcuk would be stupid enough to buy a Z4 with a fixed roof'... :fuelfire:

That's sort of odd coming from someone with a profile pic sat in a roadster/convertible etc but your opinion is good. The coupe maybe stiffer but why is the roadster second best?. It was a car designed as a roadster from the start the coupe was then modified later. You get the same stereotypes with E46 M3 owners apparently if you aint got a coupe you bought the wrong car which is just utter crap. We use our cars to prob 50% of what their capable of on the road so unless you do some serious track in a coupe to reap the benefits its literally a matter of opinion which is better. This thread wasn't a contest of which model is better but you'll always get some coupe owner who needs to defend their position its abit childish really. Maybe the thread was worded wrong I never meant it to come across as coupes don't have fun. It's a just a comparison I've made over years of driving convertibles. When the tops down sat in traffic or coming opposite way the coupe owner will look over and I'm usually the one with the bigger grin on my face. Coming from years of e46's I wouldn't say a Z4 roadster is common at all I've seen 1 since Monday its now Wednesday and I live in a massive city so its not like they aint any about obviously less coupes were made so u will see even less of them I guess. Any way it was more a post for us to post pictures and show off our beautiful roof down shots having fun.

Its a great coupe as well I seen it at last years bmw fest I remember seeing your whisky JD bottle or something like that insideon display which made me chuckle looking around it. This year bmw show 100 yr centenary celebration clashes with zedfest which one you at?

Great pic I took with all them e30 M3's behind picture of sheer class

No, it's not an odd comment at all as they never made a coupe TR4.

I'm lucky in that I can have the best of both worlds in that if I want to feel the slipstream through my grey locks I can hop in to either the TR or the Stag. 8)

Coupe owner here... although I have owned several convertibles in the past - 2 MX5's and a 350Z.

I did even consider a convertible too, but I felt I could do without the possibility of a 4-figure repair bill for the roof (it was always something that loomed in the background with the 350Z). I just prefer the looks of the Coupe too. Z4R's are common as much around here, and Z4C's you never hardly see any.

When I had convertibles, I occasionally got spat at, shouted at and generally abused, it seemed to bring out the worst in some people :( I also got hit in the face with a stone that was flicked up off the wheel of a car coming the other way, which bloomin hurt!

I admit that sometimes I do get a little jealous on a nice day, but to be honest, those days are few and far between, and for the aforementioned reasons I probably wouldn't bother dropping the top just to go to work or back (breathing diesel fumes in traffic isn't appealing either).

I am also hideously ugly as someone else said so the Coupe allows me to hide my ugly mug... and people tend to look at the car rather than me so all good

You can't start a thread for pictures in the discussion part of the forum accusing coupe owners of being miserable and not expect some backlash.

If you want pictures there's a plentiful supply here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6

When was the last time you saw a thread being started by a coupe owner having a dig at roadsters...? It's nearly always the roadies stirring up the hornet's nest and then claiming coupe owners are lame for having their point of view. We could wheel out the hairdresser, bald/ugly etc jokes for convertibles but don't as that's not why we're on a Z4 forum.

Bloody hell everyone its only jokes.......

All z4s are beautiful in there own way. But mine is obviously the best looking by far

Also lets start talking about how under powered our non Ms are even the M cars are under powerd compared to modern cars. There is even another thread about it.

Hornets nest firmly poked there

You are quite right, but to be honest it's a bit tedious and boring. I've had my Coupe for just over 12 months and lost count of the times this debate has been quarrelled over even in that short time.

Perhaps the Mods should close this thread - it's lost it's way and the whole debate is a bit of a yawn.

thanks that's reassuring to know but you seem to have a problem so why not go onto another thread...

I know how childish can some people be I like both models too so its quite funny really he feels the need to want to defend the coupes. If it makes you fell better I'll apologise for saying your miserable. There u go Steve u can feel more involved now I've included a picture of a coupe.

that's not cool people doing that I'd of bloody chucked the scissors out at them but on a general I cant say I've every had anything but smiles when the roofs down. Mostly from women even get the occasional beep, nod of appreciation or wave. It's to bad Z4 coupe owners cant show the same love when driving past.

Couldn't agree more.

I am very confident that from an aural perspective I have more fun than a coupe driver. However, we're all current or former Z owners and love our cars for similar reasons, just with a crucial choice made at purchase. Except for Taz. He's a TranZedual and can't make up his mind :D
