Steve, if you hear a whimpering sound coming from your front garden it's me trying to scratch my way into your garage :)

Just realised I'll have to change my sig pic...I must be 'South Cheshire Z4 Owners Club Member #1' now :tumbleweed:

Steve

hey, don't go changing it just yet mate, things are starting to happen at last 8)

What have you heard?

Just that it is the £120 an hour that BMW charge for labour that has pushed the cost up which is why the insurers are delaying in approving/starting the work. They will go with BMW, but they just warned me about how the cost could eventually be passed onto me when i come to renew, etc. So, the insurers are looking at a Body Shop in Cheadle that they often use who, they say, can do it far quicker with pretty much an immediate start and for around 2k less than BMW. As long as the work is very good i'm not all that bothered. I just want the car back ASAP! :driving:

Are they allowed to do that? Can they charge you more based on how much it cost them? Sounds dodgy to me

Sounds dodgy to me too! I guess you could change insurers when your policy is due for renewal.

That sounds normal to me you prang your car make a claim your insurance will go up may be different if its not your fault but can still go up then.

Thats about the gist of it, yeah.
This is my first dealings with any insurance company (first crash too!) so i'm a total newbie at it but i was told that keeping the cost down will be beneficial to me when i come to renew or apply for a quote elsewhere. I was told that after admitting to being in an accident i would be asked the cost of the damage and £7k(ish) rather than BMW's £9k would obviously be more appealing...i think :?
The bodyshop called me today and told me that they only use brand new BMW approved parts (they have the list of parts from BMW's assessment too), so my warranty will still be valid which i'm pleased about. They are due to begin work tommorrow so i should be back terrorizing the hedgerows of cheshire and stafford next week :driving:

At least now i wont have to worry about having my 108's refirbed. I'm also hoping that i might end up with the facelift front end on my '05. Is the pre-facelift front still available from BMW? Fingers crossed that it's not :)

I have been asked how much a claim was before now - so this is true.

Oh b~ll~~ks eh!!! Sorry to hear this! :(

After i wrote of my S2000 i was asked the value of the claim when i came to renew and so had to state the value of the payout, 13k. They said it would push my premium up by about another £150 a year. Just to give you an idea.

If you do an insurance quote online and change the claim amount it does alter the outcome. Im not sure if the amount of the claim is assesed in increments or not but it is proportional to the quote they give you.

Just make sure the garage looks reputable, and dont be afraid to go down there and ask plenty of questions! Really nose around at the work they will be doing, they should be happy to talk you through the whole thing.

This is a very key point!!! After dealing with shops that have done work to my wife's vehicles after several accidents (none her fault! :D ), I can honestly say that the best work came from those that are willing to take you back and show you the progress. I found out the hard way that if they won't let you back to see progress, then they are cutting corners, and generally, doing a shoddy piece of work

cheers mate. I'll definitely be VERY careful when driving in the wet from now on. I'm trying to look on the brightside really, should all work out OK.
The repairers have a very good reputation and they also have an online repair check thing. Y'know, just type in the registration number and I can track the progress.
The only thing thats gutting me is that i was planning on selling my current 2.0SE and going for a 2.5 this summer. The insurance on that will now be pretty brutal (only been driving for 10 months!!) so i can pretty much forget that for now :( . Especially as I have plans for somewhere new to live this summer too, which, as we all know is extortionate to say the least. Ah well. At least I'm alive eh? hahaha :)

No mate, i'll still be in the area, no worries there! I've just had confirmation that BMW are going to be fixing my car, not the private body shop place :) So all warranties and guarantees are still gonna be intact and I should have it back next week. HURRAH!

Great news...just need this good weather to carry on for a while 8)

Thats good news mate

Try not to worry to much my last car went into the bodyshop new bumper new bonnet and i was gutted but when it came back it looked even better and later that year she won me a trophy at a show so was well happy.

I've just got back from the BMW repair centre in Cheshire. It's the first time i've seen the car since the crash in daylight, not a nice feeling :(
I now wont get it back for another two weeks (70 man hrs of work needed) and the insurers still haven't given the go ahead. The car will be getting a full respray on every panel, new lights, radiator, bumper, front suspension, front wing, new set of 108's and tyres and lots and lots of small bits and pieces. It's also going on the jig as one of the suspension domes is showing signs of warping, so i'm told anyway. Anything that has been remotely damaged, even by a fraction, is getting replaced. £7500+VAT for the damage, which doesn't look all that bad to be honest. Pics below. It should look like a brand new car when i get it back, thats some consolation for having to 'drive' a 1.1 mitsu Colt in the meantime

Always surprises me comparing the look of damage to the repair costs, as that dont look too bad. But as you say its structural damage that you cant see!

Bet you will be counting the days 'til you get it back... i would be!

Paul,

You're right - it doesn't look that bad... still painful to look at though

Any news on which front-end you'll be getting?

Steve

PS - Did I mention I want those wheels back! :?

hahaha, i'll dig 'em out of the skip for you when they're removed and thrown out.
It looks worse than it did just after the 'off' in those pictures because the repair guys have simply wrenched the light out and bent the bumper right back to get to it. It was nowhere near as badly damaged as that as far as I remember. Oh, and the front grill just fell out, it's currently residing in the boot and is unmarked.
I've no idea which front end i'll get. I didn't want to push my luck by asking but i've still got my fingers crossed for the facelift though. They've gone around every body panel in infinite detail and have ringed each and every tiny chip and scratch with yellow ink. Most of those are purely from driving the car, not from the crash but I'm not gonna complain about a full respray! Either way, i'll just be pleased to have it back for the summer :)
