Z4 Loyalty

It seems to me that demographically this group is either in their 20's or slightly older like me just turning 60.
Make that group middle aged.

Alot are new to Zeds and immediately start modding.
We all understand that path and are somewhat powerless to resist.

Next it appears that many, adjust their lifestyle and move on from their Zed experience. ???
Having previous exposure to Harley Davidsons and that "lifestyle" where members not only form a lifetime connection to that marque, they often consummate their relationship with body makings.
Many keep returning year after year with never a thought about abandoning their beloved V-Twins.

To finally get to what Im talking about ...
Are there any here who have owned a Zed or Zeds for many years and plan to always have one in their stable ?
Personally I still enjoy mine after 9 months and have no plans to sell it yet.
Actually Im still working on the Manual ..Gotta change my radio settings today from Stadium to Jazzclub ???
So there are many challenges to be understood and overcome.
But can I expect the honeymoon to sour ???

Cheers from Canada
John

Well, I'm somewhere in the middle of those two age demographics. A longtime loyal BMW fan, and a longtime serial modder too. It's nothing to do with the Z4 per se... the bug has always been there.

That said, I'm loving the zed and the fact that there seem to be so many like-minded souls on the forum. Helps to make me feel a little more normal... sometimes!

I'm close to the big 40 (6 weeks away :? ) and purchased my Zed 2 years ago and have loved it ever since. This was my first BMW and has since led to a 120d Msport coupe, driven by Mrs M and a 320d Msport as my daily drive.
Looking forward I will probably look to change the Zed next year, and at the moment can't think what else I would change it for. As I sit here I think I would upgrade (currently 2.5) to either an M (but still a roadster, none of this coupe nonsense :fuelfire: ), or an Alpina. If BMW pull their finger out and we see the rumoured Z2 then this may be an alternative.

Mid 40's guy on my 2nd Zed and hopefully an E89 will be my third,i've had a couple of 3 series in the past an E36 and a E46 and had various other marques in between but always gravitate back to BMW.

BMW there is nothing better imo i just wish the GF had the same thinking lately she has been talking about an TT as a replacement for the Zed :(

I'm 28 and this is my second BMW.

Unlikely to change the zed for anything soon as I've just spent a lot of money on it.

More likely to upgrade my runaround Polo for a new car. In a couple of years I might get an ///M.

52 and a half. No loyalty;bought the E89 because it was the best looking of the three on my shopping list, they were SLK,Boxster and Z4.It's still the best of those three in my opinion and i probably won't change it for at least another year as i still love its looks and it's been faultless.

thats a white M coupe?

I'm 46 and this is the first BMW that I have owned, I have a company Alpina D3BT which in fairness got me looking at Alpina Z4's amongst other convertibles when I sold my 911.

I would like to think that I will keep my ///M until I can no longer get in and out of it gracefully!!!

I'll probably remain a loyal ZM owner from now.
I purchased my first bm in 82 (1974 520), my second was 1982 323i, purchased in 86. Good old days.
My third BMW is my current z purchased a couple of months ago and loving it.

Do I have to give my age away? It's a secret :D

Oh.... Not really a modder now but I did stick on a pair of 40 twin choke webers with k&n filters on my 520. Did it myself. Cars were so much simpler to work on then.

I'm on the lower end of that scale. 24 and this is my 4th BMW (if you count 2 minis as BMW?) I also have a 61 plate Cooper S as a run around. I wouldn't say ive changed my lifestyle. Neither am I a serial modder, everything I have done has been in keeping with The BMW visual, apart from maybe my calipers.

Huge car fan especially BMW and Porsche. Couldn't quite stretch to a Carrera s/4s so got an M coupe instead. Die hard BMW fan the only thing I would change to is Porsche.

Wanted to experience some exotic while I am gaining experience in my field before I move back into the city where a powerful car just won't be needed. Also before life decisions make these purchases a harder to justify.

Also the Z4M was the cheapest way to get into M cars. M3s (which is what I was originally looking at) we're twice the price to insure, then there is the rarity of the coupe. One test drive I was sold, signed on the dotted line! Haha

The Z4M coupe was always a pin up car for me, and I love it. Changing it will be hard but I think you should experience as many of your car dreams as possible before the government taxes them off the road. Lifes too short do it now not later. 8)

Having too much fun modding my roadster to consider changing it.... but, the impending delivery of Mrs Lozzer's X3 (soon... please, soon) means that I may feel the urge to change my 5er for something a little less practical

Photos of dubsesd's and tomscott's sweet coupes are making me exceedingly covetous of a Z4M. It might be nice to have a foot in both camps.

On reflection, perhaps it would be best to rephrase that....

47, and it's all this lots fault that I a modding at all, if they didn't have such clear instructions on how to do things I wouldn't have been brave enough to try, Who thought I would ever fit cruise control to a car, new rear and side lights with Headlamps on the way, a centre console, stubby (although I could have figured that one out on my own), stripped down my split rims (then sent them off to be re-furbished, oh and replace two faulty rear parking sensors.

Life is too short.
When I had the Harley (1997 til 2006) I assumed I would fiddle with it til the end.
I assumed the end would be when I was too feeble to handle the bulk of the thing. Until then there was an endless amount of mods to consider.
I figured it would be a classic by the time I was in a casket.
Reality bites and I learned something.

Now with the Zed ..At 60 Im thinking maybe Ive got 12 good years left ..
Maybe more, maybe less ..
But an 08 3.0si in 2024 will only be 16 years old !
Hardly broken in, much less a classic...
So the plan is to have as much adventure as I can squeeze outta that Roadster ...

A run down to New Brunswick this summer to see the Longest Covered Bridge in the World and to catch a few Eastern Brook Trout if Im lucky and can find room for my fly rod in a Zed)
East coast Price Edward Island this Sept ...Just in time for the Shellfish Festival and World Clam Chowder Competition.
(Chowder doesn't count against your cholesterol numbers does it Doc ?)
Plus a wedding of a wild woman that everyone has been looking forward to :) )

By the way ..I installed a black grill this am and set the radio from Concert to Church ! Im thinking that might make up for all my absent Sunday indiscretions ...
Much faster mods from my original 3 hour clock re-set last Fall

Cheers
John from Whitby

Decided to keep mine until the wheels stop turning.
I am looking to get something else next year as a runaround, just trying to decide how sensible to be.

27, first BMW.. Previously had an MR2 in my early 20's, then life got serious with gf and mortgage so opted for a boring focus. Now things are settled so thought I would have a bit of fun again with a sportier car, I'll be keeping it as standard as possible as I love it's looks... Hopefully all being well its a keeper, unless an ///M comes along:)

75% of my way through my forties. (It's possible I even worked with Ruby's dad once!) and have had bikes, cars and other expensive toys. I thought about going back to a bike but what I wanted (an S1000RR BMW, 200hp on 2 wheels!) would have been more than I'm capable of riding safely and I'd prefer not to end up a smear on the road. Something about the Alpina clicked and I rather rashly bought the first one I saw. So far though #69 has been bullet proof. Couple of minor inconveniences (sticky steering syndrome and PDC has gone intermittent) but that's what the warranty is for and she's booked in to Lovett's on Monday. Today and tomorrow she's having a makeover to remove the random dings that 8 years puts into a car and I plan on keeping her. There are only 168 or so of them and only 4 that I know of in the colour I have.

I would say there is a wide age-range of z4 owners,in all age brackets.

I am 38,and have had mine for over 5years now.
It was going to be a keeper, but have given into temptation ,and now in the process of hunting for an M Roadster that meets my criteria. :D

This was my 1st (solely)owned bm,having bought an e36 328i (m3 replica),as a money maker,with a mate/years ago(bought cheap,2yrs old,at police auction,sold 2yrs later,after having fun with it,and sold for profit
Other than that, owned various hot hatches, love modding cars...and the z4 has been the best handling/most fun of the lot(probably) :driving:

Hope to keep the M for 5yrs too.,then maybe buy a 2015 model (revised) e89 z4 :)
