Z4 Loyalty

im 19 and this is my first car at all :P i plan on keeping mine for quite a few years, buying a jeep probably and converting the z to a track monster with a new motor and a few other bits :) but time will tell, and we shall see what happens. love mine though

I'm 21 it's my second Beemer had the Z3 before this but the Z4 is in another league! Will probably keep it for 2 years as being a 3.0 it has plenty of power to keep me occupied until then!

Nearly 50  first BMW although wanted an E30 years ago.

The Z4 was bought on looks alone so not a devoted BMW fan had the car over 4 years now and no thoughts on selling as i do not have the funds to replace and nothing i could afford would be good enough to replace my Z.

Cars are like women really.

You sit around in the pub with your friends talking about them, you lust over their curves, you read all those 'magazines' in the toilet, you find one you like, you commit to it....then you find out that it has a few built-in faults, it even breaks down occasionally, or you over-rev it and it blows a gasket, or you drive it too hard and it bites back!

Sometimes you'll hire one, and if you're lucky, your mate lets you have a go in his, then you realise you're bored with the one you've got, so you trade it in for a newer model with more features, only to find you're still paying off the finance on the old one!

:o

33 here and turning 34 in 6 weeks! This was my first BMW and I think it will keep being BMW from now on. I have had my Z for a bit more than two years now, and everty time is like my first time... guess it not being my daily car helps in this.

My aim was to be the sporty guy with the sporty car, rather than owning such a car when I am old enough that my limbs hurt just by sitting in it!

I'm 51, first saw a Z4 in Basel years ago and fell in love with It, got a Z3 when i was 40 something, had that for a few years went to a Merc. CLK not a good move.

Finally got a Z4.. love it and plan on getting another one to replace it in a few years hopefully a 3 Litre maybe an M, maybe a E89.
I've no loyalty to BMW but I generally like them and I've always liked German engineering. The Z4 is in my price range and I like what you get for the money, a Porsche boxter was also on my list but the interior is too dated for me.

My dream car would be a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but unless I win the lotto that's not going to happen !

Just 35 here, with an extensive coupe track record. It's my first BMW, which comes as surprise, as I have always preferred Asian cars. I'm not loyal to any brand, be it cars of other stuff, but anyway, after a couple of test drives the Zed proved unbeatable, so here I am. When I buy the next car, I will approach the dilemma free of any brand prejudice - just test drives, test drives, test drives.

I'm 34 and have had my 2003 3.0 Z4 since 2006. I LOVE the car but it is not without it's faults. Very poor ride quality and tram lining even after I ditched the RFTs (especially in the bad Australian roads) and questionable built quality (glove box falling apart, door lock and window issues that people have reported here etc etc) and unfortunately it has just started to leak a bit of oil daily and white smoke puffs out of the engine bay every morning while it burns the small amount of oil that leaked overnight.

I'm loving the look of the new Z4s but unfortunately here in Australia BMW rips us off royally (car costs nearly double that in the USA!!) so harder to justify the upgrade.

27 years young.
Owned by zed for 5 months no sign of moving it along unless I get married and its imperative to do so.
Before so I've been loyal for a few years to my previous good cars (Scirocco 4 years, E24 2 years)

Glad I'm not alone, these are my gripes as well. The ride and tramlining I'd expect are worse on our roads.

Mid 30s, 1st time BMW owner. The Z4 is my 6th vehicle.

But can I expect the honeymoon to sour ???

In my 2+ years of ownership of the Z4, I'd say no. If you forget why you bought it, take it on a road trip and get the RPMs up. I did that this weekend. Park it at a classic car show (which invariably includes many brand new rides) and listen to the comments you receive on its looks.

The biggest problem I have with the E89 is its boot, it's so much less usable that my E85. I've been amazed at what I can fit in there, and I've never had to block off the roof cubby either).

Agreed. I saw a gorgeous black E89 yesterday at the local BMW dealership, but the trunk space is a deal breaker. 9+ cubic feet of space in the E85 enables me to use this as my DD, golf caddy, and my weekend getaway. Though I kept my fuel-inefficient Toyota 4Runner for camping, trips to the vet, bad weather transportation, and 1st dates (some ladies put too much emphasis on what a guy drives, so I leave the Z4 at home the 1st time around to weed out those types), I need my DD to be functional; the E89 is not. Maybe the E89's replacement will have more trunk space. At this point, nothing under $100,000 catches my eye, so the Z4 is here to stay.

I tell people I bought the roadster while in my 30s, in order to "let my hair blow in the wind, while I still have some." :driving: Many of my friends said it was an unwise purchase, as "only retired folks own convertibles." I read the between the lines when they said that; that phrase was code for "I hate that I drive a minivan as a DD and won't be able to afford a fun ride until all my kids are out of college." Haters gotta hate.

Oldest on this thread, 65 :P , always wanted a sports car and now can afford one. Posing around the country lanes of Rutland.

This is my 2nd BMW (prev an E46), had it 3 months, and I know I won't be keeping it forever (it's not that special to me)......but it does what I need it to do by having some roof down summer fun and is a very cheap car which will allow me to move house when I find the right one.....

Have not modded it (unless you coulnt buying an updated Sat Nav disc or putting a bit of scuffmaster on the seat :P ) and won't be - I have never modified any of the cars I've owned (25+ now) and have never got it, I just change the car if I'm not happy with it and it's time to move on.....

I'm 34 and intend to be buried in my M - like some dark ages king

I'll keep it for the rest of my days, I just need a bigger garage for other cars too. It's, for the money, the best car I've ever known. Every time I get in it it's an event. Even going to work is fun...

I don't think I'd buy another z4 unless it was an m and the chances of any more being made, at least in the short term, are almost nil. Am I loyal to BMW, probably not, but I am loyal to cars that look fantastic and perform well and for me the BMW
Z4M has both those qualities in spades.

I'm 37. It's my first BMW, I've never been a badge snob, driven Rover/Hyundai/MG/Lexus in the past but have always wanted cars that drive well. I looked at the Ford range and nothing suited apart from the mega-thirsty Focus ST 2.5 and I didn't fancy the fuel bills so I came across the Z4.

My missus got a 116i ED in December and I've been impressed with that. One thing about the Z4 is the interior quality is nothing like as good as the 1-series, but it's such a good drive I can forgive it.

I am not as mad about the Z4 looks as most owners I think. It's growing on me, which is good because I hated Z4's when they first came out

But from the inside I think it's great design-wise and the feel of driving it is brilliant. Feels like an exotic sports car.

Bought my Z brand new in 1994. My first ever new car and my first ever convertible.

It was my daily drive for 7 years until I semi retired it when I bought a Cayman S.

I was meant to sell the Z, but I just can't bring myself to. There is something about it that stops me selling it. I can't imagine not having it so will keep it forever.

Just starting my mid-life crisis and figured a Z4MC should fit the bill nicely. Love it!

Likely to keep it unless I can find my way into an Aston at some point. Other more practical cars will just rotate around the ///M (or Aston :-) )

Currently running an Audi A6 Avant (4th Audi), and about to add a 'tilly to the garage too. I need something to tow stuff with.

Alive for 57 years, and a Z4 owner only for the last 9 months of that.
When I started looking the only criteria was "2-seater convertible." I checked out all the usual suspects, but only the Z4 pushed all the right buttons at the right times. By the time I had my hand on my wallet it was a no-brainer.

I absolutely love the car. It's not a badge thing at all, I just love the darn Z4 (E85).

Right now I have no thought of changing, and fully intend to drive the ol' ragtop Z4 as long as I possibly can. But of course who knows what the future will bring. I'm just hoping it stays reliable for as long as I want to drive it.

Other than that, "que sera sera." 8)
