Z4 got to go back, but.....

After 2.5 years, 50,000 miles & with tears in my eyes my 2007 Z4 3.0i Coupe has to go back to BMW Finance in about 4 weeks :( . I am so gonna miss it & I WILL get another one when funds allow ..... BUT I have a worry : I've replaced the horrid run flats with normal tyres so when the inspector calls round to assess my car before being handed back to BMW will he charge for new run flats? The normal tyres on at the moment have loads of life left in them, I'm hoping he just checks the treads & doesn't notice. Hoping he's checked out so many Beemers & MINI's he doesn't realise it came with run flats. I'm looking at about a grand otherwise which I just cannot afford.

I've rung a friendly BMW dealer who said off the recoed it COULD be worth risking, but he really couldn't say.

So does anyone know? Anyone else had same experience?

Many thanks!

PS - the one big lesson I've learnt owning the Z4 is to ring around lots of BMW dealers when it comes to Servicing. Their prices vary hugely & many match or better a lower price than you've had so far. I've saved a fortune over the years doing this

My stepson recently bought an AUC 1 series which had budgets on it so i wouldn't worry about it.

Based on whats been sold on AUC cars with runflats, and mismatching ones too.... I would say you will be ok.

Otherwise after the inspection drop a message in the wanted bit.

Sure loads of people... Inc myself have old wheels with rft's still on them.

IF he notices (which he may not) then it would probably depend on the small print in your lease contract and interpretation thereof.

Runflats are just tyres and tyres are consumables like oil, sparkplugs, filters, belts etc.

They were specd with rfts due to having no spare or space saver in the event of a puncture. Manufacturers of new cars can provide a spare, a space saver, rfts or a re-inflation kit for this purpose.

If you remove the runflats you should replace them with a re-inflation kit at the very least.

May have the same dilemma in the new year as i have 452's on at the moment but only three rft's stored in the garage so i would need to buy a part worn rft's then swap them over, will keep an eye on this thread.

iirc sr hutch PX'd his roadster with Non flats at bmw when he bought his MR and had no problems.

Not good having to lose it but if your really worried about ur flats then get yourself off to the nearest part worn place. The last one I was in had 2 in and said they could get more. 25 each.

Have you thought about selling privately to clear the finance? Bound to get more money and the coupe's seem to sell well :)

Never had much luck in the past selling cars privately but may advertise it on the forum to see if any interest.

+1 on giving forum sell a try. Maybe a dutch auction? Also, what about swapping your non-rft wheels with somebody thats wants to change?

Did think about doing a swap with the wheels but as one has seen the wrong side of a kerb a few times it maybe a non starter.

You could always say they came that way...ie non run flats

+1. He may not notice or ask but if he does I'd tell him I replaced them like for like and let him prove otherwise. Can't see it being an issue though.

This is correct, they were just going to add a BMW inflater and gunk kit.

First of all many thanks to you all for advice etc. really appreciated. I bought it from a BMW stealer so saying the car came with non-RF's might fall on deaf ears .... BUT like you say worth a punt, you never know. I have a small compressor & 2 cans of Holts tyre foam stuff so getting a flat wouldn't be a problem.

But Andy - cheers for the offer! Very interested! I put 2 x brand new front tyres on last week & my rears I bought in April, done about 12k miles but lots of tread left. So please yes, def get in touch with me. I live near Preston but cover the North / Midlands so meeting up would be no problem. Cheers!

it also says there are to be no chips in the windscreen in front of driver etcetc, mine had a small one although i did get autoglass to fill it in, and heared nothing back when i got mine inspected
also the tyres were pretty much close to being illegal and again nothing got back...
also the mot said the brake discs were close...again nothing back
i dont think they really care in all honesty
