Okay, so I saw this thread and went to the website and filled in their questionaire and requested a callback the following day ... Nada no reply no phone call.
SO I was /am with Hastings Direct.
I took out a policy with Hastings Direct last year 2025 , I knew that the quotes would be high, as I have not driven for some 13 years so zero no claims discount , and yes I was ripped off .
So this year comes the renewal quote, last year it cost £750 ( multi car policy 2 cars). This year 2026/feb renewal quote was for £502. .. okay a reduction of £250 , great...But i checked to see if this could be bettered, and yes I did get better/lower quotes...albeit with vouchers!
So I phoned Hastings Direct and explained the situation. Okay long story short, this was a ~40 mins phone call and once I asked for the manager to have a look, my quote went down to £308. I asked for the exact amounts for each car ..(Z4 = £145.52 ), and the cover.
Brilliant
Come the renewal payment and £438 was taken out !
Phoned Hastings Direct explained the situation, and that I had screenshots of the new quotes as proof, they said that they would have to check the phone call recording . Fine I said
They called back and confirned that the incorrect amount was taken from my account and the diff will be credited asap .
Result
Moral of the story ..go with the best customer service and not the cheapest.
