Z4 E89 Aerial Snapped! Fustrated

Hey all,

Fustrated! Bought a stubby aerial, when removing the old one it sheared off and has now left its screw in the base.

Anyway to fix this?

Bolt extractor. Be sure you use a smaller sized extractor first - then you can use a larger one if need be. Also, go SLOWLY, protect your paint and be careful! Good luck!

I hate to say that because the part has snapped due the the threads being seized - tapered extractors are going to struggle to remove the offending part.

Just got off the phone with my local BMW dealer. £67.50 excluding fitting for the base. Does that sound right?

Thanks all

Drill it out and stick a coat hanger in there, maybe it'll start a new craze and help do away with the stubbys :fuelfire:

Be jesus...

You have made yourself a job there....

You either buy new and fit it,or remove it and work on getting the screw out..

A local engineering company might do it for beer money....

It was while removing the coat hanger to fit a stubby that it snapped... keep up :P

Call this divine intervention, you must have a guardian angel that is doing it's best to ensure your car doesn't look stupid.

Unfortunately this is just a cover, not the base where the aerial is snapped.

Strange this should happen as of all BMWs I've owned the E89 was the only car where I couldn't remove the aerial as it was seized so I never bothered in case it sheared the screw fitting.

Tim.

Let me get this straight .... you've found yourself in this pickle because you wanted to fit a 'stubby' so that you could get worse radio reception ??? ... .................. I've only just found out what a stubby is ... come to think of it I've only just stopped calling the radio a wireless ... and I don't really know how to work it anyway!

This is now resolved guys, had my mechanic look at it and he removed the stuck bolt with ease. The new stubby looks great! Much more modern :)

Good result, however :worthless:

So, just to keep the argument ( :P ) running - I have a stubby aerial & haven't noticed any loss of signal quality!

Someone on another post was complaining about poor reception with a 'stubby' - maybe he lived in the Highlands! .... I remember when I had a E86 three years ago it didn't have an aerial at all - presumably someone had knicked it or broken it off - I never played the radio myself but my wife used the car to go to the station weekdays and listened to it every day with no complaints. ... :) ... My present E89 has got a dangerous looking thing that looks like it was borrowed from a narwhal ... I bought the car in November but haven't turned the radio on yet ... maybe I should try it!
