Z4 dream over

Well,

After a good few months of umming and arring about a Z4, my insurance renewal is now due in early may. My current company will not insure me on a Z4, so hence I have had to wait until the year runs out so i can look elsewhere.

The problem is, I think my dream of owning one of these lovely cars is over.... A few months back I was getting insurance quotes for £1500 which is silly, but then Admiral came in with a quote of £900, still alot but not that bad considering the rest! unfortunately there was some sort of error and now whenever I enter my postcode in to Admiral they say they cannot provide a quote.

I treid putting a multicar quote in, with the Z4 and a little Yaris as the run around, however whilst the qoute came through it simply said £XXX which i guess means its some silly amount and I have to call them to find out.

Today I went on money supermarket and confused.com, the best quote i could get was £2500!!!! its gone up over the past few months.

I am trying to understand why my premium should be so high. I am a 25 year old male, I live in a desirable country location, I have a full time job, have been driving for 8 years. The only black mark is one insurance claim last year which was flood damage, however this was on my parents policy not my own, so dont know if it counts.

I only made the move to my own policy last year (due to university etc) and hence I only have 1 years NCB.

But still £2500 seems ridiculous, is it the time of the year or something???

Any advice appreciated!

Dude, that's ridiculous!

I'm 22 and live in the worst area for Car Insurance and I pay $1800 a year for full comp and collision.

I know your across the pond, but insurance should be based what you've actually done, not past idiots your age!

Speed, which Zed are you trying to get a quote on??? Surely not a 2 litre for that kind of money?

Take a look at the Insurance forum and give Give Chris Knott a call. A lot have reported great quotes form him and he'll at least tell you why it's so high and'or how to reduce it.

Getting married helps, as well as adding your parents to your policy.

Trust you have no points?

depends where you live, if your in the north west insurance gets expensive. I got a good price from greenlight who specialise in modded and performance cars. I'd shop around off the Internet before you give up.

I guess that's your problem. I'm similar age, decent area, full-time etc. but I have 7 years NCB.

For me:

1 year NCB = ~ £2200
7 year NCB = ~ £750

I live central London, car parked on public road, 25, 3.0 and pay £800 with protected NCB.

Add your parents as was mentioned and call them

Not sure if its been said, UI havent read the whole thread....but put a women who is 25+ on your policy, oftern brings it down alot! Even thought she never has to drive it :)

Also try bell direct, and all the gocompare and confused.com sites.

Btw I am with Admiral and they are very good. They will negotiate to get the business. Just ring up and say you have had a quote for £900 from direct line and will they beat it...

sorry didnt see the 1 years ncb - your in a similar boat to me, i live in a rural town, 28 years old but i have 3 years ncb - my premium is £700 fully comp with all the usual extras, even got key cover up to £1.5k so if i lose my keys the locks get changed on the insurance (a lot of insurers dont do key cover anymore)

the 1 years ncb will make it £1800 - £2k id guess, just have to bite the bullet, i drove a seat ibiza for 3 years and id never go back, id have happily paid the quotes your getting if i could have afforded it at 25 (i passed my test @ 25) for the pleasure of driving a z4 - look at it this way if you pick the car up cheap the money saved covers the high insurance costs, and as long as you stay claim free it will drop a fair bit each year!

My quote was £1400 with no NCB, or £700 with full NCB.

That's for 20,000 miles p.a. including business cover, parked on the street in Liverpool 25 and with Tracker Horizon installed/activated.

BMW quoted me £1800 a few weeks back when i bought the car (I am well over 25 and female). I insure on a mutlicar policy with Admiral. 350z, audi TT 3.2, Z4m and a old citreon synergie. With Admiral they will let you swap you no claims around if you have more than one car. I only had 1 year on the SLK merc (when i first went with Admiral) i had and 6yrs on the synergie - which is only ever used for going to the tip and taking the dog out. So they then let me put the 6yrs on the most expensive to insure car and the 1yr on the synergie.

I pay £1200 for two of us for all 4 cars. With Admiral the more cars you have, the better deal you can get if you swap the no claims around, if you have them. Also get them to give you an introductory discount of boasted no claims. I stuck the TT back on my multi car policy, meant to be selling it, but do like it. They gave me two years no claims on that as a bonus. I have found with Admiral if you ring them, they are quite flexible.

Glad i am not young anymore. My step sister - 19 years old - Ford KA, worth about £750 - her insurance last year £1500, this year just gone done to £800 - bargain :o

Some companies will give you some NCB if you have been a named driver dont know who but worth asking.
Also as has been said add your parents as named drivers on your policy.

When i was younger i always used to add my father to my policy, even though he wouldn't drive my car, and it made such a difference. To my knowledge, and correct me if i am wrong, there is nothing wrong with adding another named driver?

I also don't trust the likes of 'confused' etc. I once had my renewal quote through, and then compared it on 'confused'. My current insurer was quoting me £200 more then the renewal they has sent me?
I have always found that picking up the phone and speaking to a real person will always get you a better insurance deal.

I think your NCB is the problem? But go back to Admiral. The 'error' is probably because you are trying to start a new quote when they have one registered against your postcode, if you login you can access it? Or give them a ring....since I was 23, nobody has come close to Admiral or Bell. Except ignore the renewals, it's always cheaper online...

Both my parents are on my policy as it knocks a few quid off, though strangely only with Admiral. 27, Z4M, 4 years NCB, £720 FC. At 23 I was paying £550 FC on a 330 Sport with Directline, so £1500+ for a 3.0 does seem over the top at 25.

...but then car insurance is a random number generator anyway

i was 24 when i got my 3.0 z4
£870 with admiral 7 years NCB
3 points for sp30
It's you NCB that's your issue. at least i hope so i don't wnat my insurance to suddenly shoot up to 2.5K when i next renew!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Well, Its all good advice, I will keep trying for the time being, just to see if I can get it lower.

Worst case scenario I have to wait another year :-( trouble is when you have that urge to replace your car it does not really go away!

As everyone has said, it is my NCB that is the problem, i was foolish and stayed on my parents policy whilst at university and am now paying for it.

Hmmm I need to think about this, whether to buy a hot hatch for a year or so then move to a Z4 then... we will see.

To rub it all in i got overtaken by a 3.0 Z4 with the roof down today! :x

Cheers everyone
