Unless you have chosen a career path in Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing, you have to get a Coupe.

1.MPG on my (mildly modified),3.0i is averaging between 29 and 31 mpg,and tho driven respectfully,is driven enthusiastically,which are on a combo of town and b-roads/dual c-ways,etc.

YES,tho its a service that should be carried out every 2yrs. eg oil/insp 1/oil/insp.2 is the way it goes,each service be done at the latest 2yrs. its dependant on your driving style(which affects oil condition). I,like others do an additional oil change annually,which costs me £100 from an indy,or £130 from bmw.

5. An INSP.1 service costs £250,while an Insp.2 (largest servcv/incs sparkplugs,etc), costs around £350,from my local/main BMW dealer.
in 4yrs of ownership,i have had 2 required oil servcs(at £130 each), 1 Insp.1 servc,and 1 additional oil servc(indy). the next servc due in 8k mls/being the biggie(insp.2),
So its not an expensive car to service(3.0 anyway),imho

I'm back and I think I'm finally ready to take the plunge this year, and I've got some questions for you all:
3. I'm looking at an M Sport. What are the must have options? I'm not too fussed about sat nav or bluetooth, but I would like parking sensors and cruise control.
All 3.0ltrs came with m-sport suspension,while qt a few were specced up with m-sport seats too. certainly worth looking for,imo
7. Are there certain things to look out for at certain mileages? For example wear and tear?
Just try and find out from prev owner(s),if it had its rear coil springs renewed. a common fault. costs about £80 per side,plus fitting to renew/so not too dear.
9. How is the standard hi-fi and is it easy to connect an ipod to it? I really can't be bothered with CD's in the car anymore.
I found the std stereo lacking for me(as have history in prof car hifi installs),as it lacked depth;but plenty ppl like it ok.
U got 3/4 options. Look for an amp in the boot,and subs,etc(10 spkrs),and u wil have either the Carver or similar option,which comes with dsp. it sounds great
As for I-POD kit,plenty go for Intravee/Dice,but i like the BMW one,as its only £100-£150(depending on what stereo optn the car has),and is a fairly easy diy fit,and tho more basic in its functions than some kits,u can be limited to what u can get,if u have dsp.
10. How much will new tyres set me back (something decent, like Bridge Stones or Michelin - looking at MV2 rims)
18" Vredestein tyres are about £470 fitted(buy from elite or camskill,get ftd urself),and are Superb/espcly in the wet,and way outlast any other brand,mileage-wise!
13. Any other tips?
Get a stuby(aerial,that is),lol.
Plus,108 split rims look great,but require a bit extra tlc to keep looking good/are prone to corrossion btwn the 2 sections/as are splitrims ftd to porsches,etc too!!
just check any wheels closely,and u will be fine

BTW I'm not looking at the Z4M Coupe, just the normal 3 litre.
Part of me thinks I'll miss having a soft top, but the coupe is just way more stunning in my opinion and a bit different.

how can anyone say the coupe looks 'dated'? it only come out 4 years ago 
i've come from a 330ci convertible, so i guess i'll miss the top down in the hot weather, but for the amount of times its actually worth putting the top down - i'm happy to sacrafice, plus i do motorway driving every day, hence the coupe is better as its quieter (imo of course)

The Coupe was born from a styling excercise - a concept car to show off the styling capabilities of the design studio but then it went to market. Not many pure styling excercises make it to the road and that together with the relativly small numbers makes it exclusive. Not by true definition as there are thousands but they are an uncommon site and will become more so. Anyway - that's irrelevent to this thread.
Will you miss a convertible if you go for a Coupe - I think all of us miss a convertible from time to time if we don't have access to one.
Regarding wear and tear, I'd say the biggest issue other than well known mechanical woes such as broken springs (which are not expensive to replace) is seat wear. I've learned to get in whilst putting minimum wear on the seat which I think is ridiculous but I've got used to it.
I've never been afraid of buying a car and selling a few months on if I don't quite like it or I just want a change. If you buy carefully you can end up losing little if anything at all.

On another note, I just quickly looked up some pics of both models and it has to be the coupe. I know I'll probably miss a convertible in the summer, but the coupe just looks so much better.
The tax on the 3 litre is actually cheaper than my MX-5 and I'm likely to get slightly better fuel ecomony out of it too.

Those who have halogens will say go for Xenons . I've had both and there ar compromises with both. The halogens are dim but you can easily adjust the height so the throw is further.
The xenons are brighter - a lot brighter but are set from new quite low. They can't be adjusted easily so you don't see very far.
The easy way to tell if a car is fitted is to look at the headlamp switch. Halogens have a knurled roller switch to adjust height, the xenons don't.
You will be amazed as to how cheap a 3.0Si is to run.
