Z4 Coupe Advice

Hi Guys,

My original thread here for you:-
http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20664&p=292570#p292570

I'm back and I think I'm finally ready to take the plunge this year, and I've got some questions for you all:

1. My MX5 returns a crap 21 mpg in mileage doing an A1/A41 commute into London from Hertfordshire. I'd imagine the Z4C will return better mpg, is this right?
2. How much would a BMW oil change cost, and regardless of mileage should this be done every 2 years?
3. I'm looking at an M Sport. What are the must have options? I'm not too fussed about sat nav or bluetooth, but I would like parking sensors and cruise control.
4. What does the comfort pack offer?
5. How much do inspections A and B cost and what do they cover? Also how often do you have to have them?
6. Does the car have a cambelt that needs changing?
7. Are there certain things to look out for at certain mileages? For example wear and tear?
8. Do the mirrors fold in electronically on all models?
9. How is the standard hi-fi and is it easy to connect an ipod to it? I really can't be bothered with CD's in the car anymore.
10. How much will new tyres set me back (something decent, like Bridge Stones or Michelin - looking at MV2 rims)
11. What's the best time of year to buy a coupe? I'm in no rush and want to flog my MX-5 in spring as summer approaches.
12. Do any come with a sunroof?
13. Any other tips?

BTW I'm not looking at the Z4M Coupe, just the normal 3 litre.

Part of me thinks I'll miss having a soft top, but the coupe is just way more stunning in my opinion and a bit different.

Thanks all :)

definateley

hi,

i get 28mpg from an automatic, as for sunroof, its a definate no, look at the shape of the roof, it would be inpossible to fit 1

Hi There,

1. I do the same commute from Hertford to Wembley quite regularly and get anywhere between 25-28mpg depending on how bad the traffic is. On the motorway expect 35 -38mpg, on the track 8mpg!

5. I just had an inspection 1 service done at Elms BMW in Bishops Stortford and was unpleasantly surprised when they presented me with a bill for close to £500. They offer fixed price servicing but check the small print. I'll be using A1BM near Stevenage next now that I'm out of warranty.

8. My mirrors do not fold in automatically.

9. I have the business radio which I think is fairly standard and I think it sounds great. There is a sub somewhere behind the drivers seat I think giving a nice warm sound without being boomy. Its better than the BOSE system that was alledgedly in the RX8 I owned previously.

10. A set of Bridgestones will cost around £1k for all four but don't go near them, they give an awful ride and can cause suspension springs to snap due to the lack of give in the sidewalls. Get standard rubber fitted and you will pay £400 for a set of Falken 452, which are highly recommended on this forum or get Michelin pilot sport or equivalent fitted and again pay about £1k. Whenever ordering tyres remember that the front and rear tyres are different widths. Front - 225/40/18, rear - 255/35/18.

11. No real season for coupes but in general prices are low at the mo due to everyone being skint and the new shape coming out in my opinion.

12. Don't think you can get a sunroof but could be wrong, Autotrader will tell you the answer to that.

13. Buy one!!! You won't regret it

All the best

4. What does the comfort pack offer?
rear Park Distance Control
automatically dimming rear-view mirror
multi-function steering wheel
maybe the storage package (not sure)

8. Do the mirrors fold in electronically on all models?
no - was about a £160 extra

9. How is the standard hi-fi and is it easy to connect an ipod to it? I really can't be bothered with CD's in the car anymore.
standard is BMW Business radio with single CD (which I have)
aux-in socket not standard until about the 2007 models but the earlier ones can have one retro-fitted
I find the sound quality fine (for heavy metal), and mostly just use a CD with about 80 mp3s on it

extras on a 3.0si sport vs 3.0 SE
M Suspension
M Sports seats
18" rims rather than 17"
anthracite headlining
multi-function steering wheel

Sunroof come as standard on the Roadster :poke: .......Well we cant keep this Coupe exclusive :fuelfire:

3. Heated Seats and Xenon Lights would be a must for me.

6. The car has a chain not a belt.. which should last the life of the car.

+ cup holders, which are quite handy.

i clicked on this expecting a load of "buy a proper one, one without a roof" type posts, pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Was chatting to my brother over the weekend (he used to own a Z4 and now has a 335i) and he thinks I should go soft top. His opinion is that there's no point buying a 2 seater if it's not a soft top. He also thinks the coupe is dated. I've started to realise the coupe is most definitely a marmite car.

Has anyone gone from a Z4 to a Z4C? Or any type of convertible to a Z4C? If so, have you missed not having a convertible? I love my MX5 but having recently moved house, I'm not sure if I'd have the roof down as much on the A roads, as my commute into work is very different now.

I went straight from an S2000 to a Z4 3.0 Si Coupe. I will admit there have been more than one occasion when I've got in the car and its been quite warm and I've had a very short bout of depression at the fact that I have no option but to drive with a roof over my head.

It all depends whether if you are one of those chaps what is comfortable being seen in a convertible, seeing as you own an MX5 this shouldnt be a problem.

You really have to decide what YOU like and want. The Z4 roadster just joins a crowd of other roadsters. Very nice and good fun but that's it. TheCoupe is always going to be more exclusive and has the classic lines of many great cars that have come before it but at a fraction of the price.

If you've never had a soft top then there is the novely factor of wind in your wig but the Coupe just looks so gorgeous.

I'm lucky in that I have both tin top and roadster but the Coupe is the car I would miss as it would be the hardest to replace.

It's down to you.

The Coupe is NOT more exclusive, I hate that word, makes whoever uses it sound like a right pretentious so-and-so. You are just less likely to see one seeing as there are less about.

ergo, more exclusive :poke:

I went from a 2.5SE Roadster to a 3.0si Sport Coupe, Not had nice enough weather yet to be worried about missing top down motoring but no doubt will miss the top down option.

The Coupe does look better than the Roadster when the top is up though and has a stiffer chassis.

They are both exceptionally good cars and whichever you choose you will enjoy.

Once you have used your head to decide on the Z4, you can now use your heart to choose which style YOU prefer.

At the end of the day its your money.

(Was going to put sarcastic comments about Roadsters being better but ..........)

i originally wanted to buy a coupe (as i already had my convertible fix from my previous S2K)

However after i saw the roadster side by side to the coupe i knew i had to get the roadster.
