I was just going to ask the same thing.
If I had a spare £2,700 lying around then I would spend it on petrol.![]()
See my above post mate

Many a time I have been driving along, looked at the clock and been going a lot faster than I'd thought I was. It's so well built and smooth that when you're doing 60 it feels like you're doing 30. It gives Scoobs/Evo's etc. a good run for their money but in the Subaru or Evo you can really feel it when you put the power down. Whereas in the Z4 you don't really. It's a car with two personalities I think, it can be sensible and smooth, but you can also challenge it with speed and twisty roads.
I have driven an M, and the difference is noticeable enough to make you think "Yeah, I want an M". But being a young one myself the insurance is ridiculous really. Most people won't even touch me. I had it hard enough trying to insure the 3.0si when I got it 2 years ago. So I reckon your looking at a good 3 - 5k with 6 points. Which in my opinion is not worth it, unless you really have money to burn and don't care.
I also think another problem for you is that you already have a hell of a lot more speed with your bike. So anything else is going to feel really slow compared.
Totally agree with this, the 3.0si doesnt feel as quick as it actually is, its so refined and quiet you dont realise how quick you pick up speed..with the wacking big turbo of evos you'll feel like you are going loads faster but not really as much as you feel.
Your getting a bit of stick here matey with the whole spending a lot of money of insurance thingy etc..I started off paying 3200 when I was 19 working my way down to 2200 this year being 22 (and an accident unfortunately which stopped it coming down further) but my passion is my car and whats wrong with puting money into it when you enjoy it so much! If people like to put money into houses and enjoy that, well then thats all good for them. But I (and you) would rather put into our cars so keep puting it in
As for the topic of the thread lol , I would say if you can afford the M to buy and run then why not go for it, just make sure you get a good long test drive in one first. I bought mine private and was driving it out and about with the seller for almost 2 hours!

but imo the z4 and most NA motors feel rather gutless compared to a FI car such and an Evo or Scoobie even though in the real world the Z4 will prob be just as quick.
My mate took me for a spin in his Focus ST.. which had a remap.. and felt pretty damn good in the passenger seat... wasnt until we were in convoy joining the a38 slip road.. both of us giving our car some beans did i realise mine was actualy faster!

Yeh, as i said its not like i wanted to spend that much but i allready had the key in my hand and had travelled to find the spec i wanted (3.0 black, black leather, heated seats, xenons etc etc) and well....it was hard to go "can i have my money back please mate i dont want to pay that for insurance"!!
I dont really care that much, i could look back and regret spending that much, or i could look back thinking i wish i had done that while i could....i know what i would rather!!

I doubt you're going to get anything "faster" with your insurance problems (age, points).
but, tbh, you've shot yourself in the foot by buying the R1 as your first proper bike - you're not going to get faster than that for a long time
Do what I did, and stick with the bikes.
Eventually you'll get bored of straight-line speed, and you'll start finding the better driving/riding challenge - corners.
Doesn't matter what you can do in a straight line, the real fun is stringing some complex turns together quickly - and you don't need a //M or a R1 for that![]()
For example, on all the forum runs I've been on, the //M drivers only pull away by any measurable distance when we hit a bit of straight road - through the tight twisinty bits, I'm right with them throughout!
I'm sure if you've been out on a few tracks with the R1, you must have noticed the lighter bikes (R6, kwak 6, Gixxers) all catching you on the corners - when I had my R6, it was piss easy to pass the R1 riders on the corners, and watch as they rage past you on the straights![]()

but seriously, good luck with the quest for MOAR POWAH!
Hope you find something that's fast enough for you,
Yep, i have had 3 R6's(2000@17, 2005@ 18, 2006@19) 3 WR450's and numerous moto x bikes since i was a child. Been on some tracks on them including most recently the nurburgring on the R1, which was awesome! not many R6's coming past me there i can tell you that for sure!...but plenty of locals in some crazy GT3's!!
I ride the r1 in sun, snow, rain and sleet as its my daily commuter and toy so there is no chance of me stopping biking!
ETA: the next bike is deffo going to be a BMW S1000RR mmmmmmmmmmmmm![]()

You sound much like me dude...
Rode bikes all my life.. me and my bro. From 5 and 7 years old we had a LT50 (remember when they came out?!?) and a PW80.. All the way to CRF450/CR250.. CR500 Hybrids (mental)..the old yzf426.. My brothers got a 2009 RMZ250 sitting inside his bedroom lol.I've only had a road license for 3 years odd tho.Same as you aswell I work 10 hours a day 6 days a week.I live at home..Don't really drink ,don't spoke.I own a Z4 3.0 2003,2004 RSVR1000R ,Golf mk2 GTI 16v.Sounds impressive but I live at home..So not really amazing lol
Problem is i find bikes frustrating on the road..You'll end up hurting yourself. It's fine commiting to bends but if a car gets in the way i know i won't be able to stand her up in time..But on the track..ahhh all that lean angle can be used!Cars you can push on the road alot (before anyone flames i know its not legal!) But you can..Cars can brake mid bend (not a good idea) alot better than a bike without your front end washing away!
you can still have a little fun on the road with bikes tho!
