Z4 3.0 Coupe market watch

No reason why the M should have its own market watch as many on the forum follow all the models so feel free to post up any you find whether good, bad, cheap or dear , it all helps to formulate a good knowledge of the Z4 market

This would be my pick of the current offerings ,
2007 SI Sport good colour, 48k & a decent spec for what i would consider a reasonable ask at £10750

& cheaper 56 plate SE spec with auto 77k £8950

Looking at the very first post on this thread from nearly 5 years ago, prices for the same mileage and spec would seem to be around the same today. How’s that for excellent depreciation?

Its followed a rollercoaster trajectory from peak to trough each 9-15months ? right now its at a peak again , maybe one day values will hold or rise without dropping back but i don't expect that just yet .

Hi all,

As I’ve recently purchased a Z4C, I thought it was worth sharing my market research for those interested in current values. Obviously these are asking prices and I can’t comment on how much they actually go for. Data was collected from various sources including Motors, Autotrader, CarGurus, eBay and Pistonheads during a July this year. To be honest I’m surprised how many Coupes there were for sale given their rarity.

Here you go:

In summary, in July there were 55 E86s for sale in July with an average mileage of 84,798 and an average price of £9,149. Today, there are 42 E86s for sale with an average mileage of 83,143 and an average price of £10,204. There seems to be more low-milers creeping on to the market at high prices, and a virtual absence of bargain basement cars.

I hope that’s of interest to someone.

Happy New Year to you all! - Ben

That's interesting, Ben.

Prices are certainly way higher than they were this time last year when I sold mine!

I’m on the lookout for a coupe although the current climate isn’t going to make it the easiest time.

I thought this looked familiar, anyone here?
Suspiciously low price, well maybe a year ago if the seller was in a hurry to sell.

Thats got hand-me-the-notes-in-a-car-park written all over it. Check the for sale section here. There’s a nice black one for sale in there at the moment that needs a new home.

These are well discussed scams on the forum.

There was a suggestion from a member that because they are only contactable by email that it was to get a valid email address to drop a virus/spyware etc onto your computer.

The ads only ever show one “stolen” picture and a typed contact sheet

As Andy has said, these are a well known scam, any advert with one picture and claiming to sell on behalf of a client is a con - in fact the first three e89's on my Ebay this morning were the same type of advert.

Not certain it is spyware but someone may pay a deposit into a an account and never see the car, the moral of the story is if it looks to good to be true then it probably is.

Luckily the guy I approached last year ref selling his Coupe rang me last week - collected the following day 😊

Well done mate - I won't ask what you paid for it, but I think others would be surprised to know that the clearing price for used cars is a bit lower than what AutoTrader would have you believe! Could be wrong...

It's hard to say mate, many so called "great" examples are still for sale (I know because I've been watching the market for some time) but that may be due to the fact that the majority are black or variations of. It does seem that other colours generally don't hang around too long if their location is favourable and not too far north. There have been a couple of examples on here recently that sold extremely quickly and for good money so there are buyers waiting for the right car. I paid a few hundred more than I wanted to for mine however, since I first viewed it it has had suspension, bushes, water pump etc done so it needs nothing now plus the owner knew he had me by the short and curlys because I was specifically after a Stratus Grey one

Personally I think a lot are not selling currently due to lock down. I think this time around people are being more cautious. I am sure there are some rough examples and some over priced! Be interesting to see when things settle if the stronger prices remain...

Don't care how low the miles, with this spec this is well over priced, even with today's up and down market.

Very tidy, but base spec SE. In July there was an identical spec 1 owner 49k car sold for less than 10k (to me). This seems very expensive but who knows; it might be just the thing for some fool with an E86 crush (like me).

No heated seats and 17inch wheels! If you're looking for a low miler and happy to splash out on upgrading parts then maybe it will work for someone...just knock 5k of the price at least.

I’m potentially back in the market for a 3.0si, roadster or coupe. The last time I was looking I nearly bought a good high miles coupe for £4300. I’m now seeing silly money being asked for similar high miles examples.

No doubt this is due to lockdown and fewer examples being advertised. There are very few on AT or PH compared to pre-Covid. It’s the same with the 986s Boxster that I’m also considering.

I’ve no doubt prices will return to normal, so I’ll wait to pick up a good forum car.

Lockdown might be part of it, but I'm willing to bet you here and now you won't find a 3.0Si Coupe for £4300 ever again. :D

No need for the bet, I wouldn’t expect to find one that cheap.
