Z3 project...no going back now!

Getting it all lined up is a very time-consuming (and frustrating for me) process. It would be so easy to have the 'that will do' attitude, but that is not something I can do, or would want to do.

Mate, this is where your hard work (or lack of) will pay dividends, getting those small details corrected and having that attention for perfection makes for a future of frustration and patience by the bucket load. But from where we are watching, you've made giant leaps and its starting to resemble the mgb gt you always craved. You might want to address the cable tie that's holding up the front end :poke:

Are you powering it by mains cabling?
That's the new wiring loom. A job for another day (or more accurately; year).

I have undertaken many challenges in my adult life; building houses, starting with a blank piece of paper; making furniture with just the internet for guidance; designing heating systems from scratch with little knowledge, etc, etc.

But this bloody thing is THE most complicated and frustrating of all those put together.

It's just like being given a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle which is all sky, no picture on the box and none of the pieces have been cut properly. Then being handed a coping saw and told to get it done. Oh and being charged £25,000 for the privilege of doing it.

Had another shite couple of days trying to get the bloody body to fit with acceptable panel gaps. I am sick of grinding GRP and nothing staying put :x

Many more days of the same to come. Yippee. I have a full face super-duper 99.9% HEPA mask and I can still 'taste' GRP all the time!

Unless you get some kind of masochistic pleasure from beating your head against a brick wall, DON'T EVER try to put a GRP body (especially one that is crap quality) on a shitty old Z3. It is fecking terrible! :)

I’ve heard that there are quite a few guys in Hethel who are underemployed at the moment. They have almost the experience required, so perhaps they can help you out

It's starting to come together, or apart, depending on which way you look at it!

NOT the easiest thing I have ever done, and definitely not the cheapest! 20240720_215039.jpg20240721_184647.jpg20240720_215008.jpg

Pretty impressive craftmanship and commitment - both much more than I could have mustered.

I don't think anyone previously has ever invested so much time turning a Z3 into an MGB

Yes, yes, we all know the rear end is very 'MGB-ish'. Tell Ferrari, not me! :P

I also thought it looked like the rear end of an MGB but I thought it would be heartless to say anything after all the work he has done. Anyway there's nothing wrong with it looking like an MGB, great car. In its day.
