Z3 project...no going back now!

Red letter day today. My baby drove out into the sunlight for the first time in 17 months. She starts first time, every time. First gear and reverse seem to work OK. Obviously it's a bit challenging testing any of the other gears at present (only got 5 forward ones anyway!).

Here she is; all ready for the paint shop! 20250326_122432.jpg20250326_122450.jpg20250326_122359.jpg20250326_122504.jpg

Is that an MG rear end?

I have an old wardrobe I need to get rid of, if you're looking to fill those rear arch gaps. :poke: :D
Yes, I was concerned about that. It looks stupid as is.
I have it on good authority that once the lowering springs are fitted and the suspension 'settles' (it has been up and down on a jack for months and hasn't moved) it should be OK. The new wheels/ tyres are very slightly larger diameter too (not by much mind) which should help.

Is it f**k. :x
The 250 california was designed by pininfarina, as was the MGB, in the same era. The rear end (mainly because of the rear light clusters) are very similar. Just the way it is. The MGB has reflectors built into the lenses, though...the Fezza didn't.

Sorry, it does keep reminding me of my old MGB roadster. I thought pininfarina was only employed to do the hatch back of the MGB GT. Anyway it’s a bloody nice looking car and despite all the jokes at your expense when you started this you’ve stuck at it. You should be very proud of yourself

Here is a picture of the rear end of a real one, worth north of £10,000,000.

I remember when I saw my first (and only) 250 california in the flesh around 25 years ago. I had no idea what it was but immediately thought it looked like an MGB because of the rear lights. But it had a Ferrari badge on the bootlid, so was confused. Then I looked closer at the whole car and fell in love. I have never fallen in love with an MGB.

I think you should embark on a UK tour when it’s finished, there’s a lot of us eager to see it ! Well done mate, thoroughly enjoying seeing your progress, superb effort

To get your 4 tail pipes, are you plumbing into the standard z3 box?
Yep, just a cat back system. It has to be bespoke made, as you obviously can't buy them off the shelf.
I have spoken to a fairly local exhaust shop who seem confident they can make one. That is the last thing to be done, though.

Brian (jock156) has a bespoke 4-pipe system on his 2.0. Would that do?
