Your Z4 Moment of 2010?

Okay, so work is a little slow today, and found myself reflecting on my 2010 Z4 antics. It has been a great year!

Meets all over the place, Sussex, North Wales, The Lakes and Scotland. Some great mods sorted. A trip across Europe. Marvelling at my winter tyres.

What was the best moment? While I think the trip down to Italy, many thanks to Road Trip for the route, was immense, I think the best single moment was on the Scotland meet...

We'd not been allowed on the ferry to Skye so we took the long way round :) There was some traffic along the way, which we'd been dispensing with. A while into that stint I was following a 1 series with little chance to overtake. My chance came at as we approached a bridge, flat and open I could see the road was clear for a good distance. So I overtook, going round a long left hander; roof down, car feeling squat with the Vreds gripping for England and Eisenmanns blatting away behind me. Passing on the bend felt awesome. In that moment I felt like a driving god (I am aware I am not!). Awesomeness. A great memory. :driving: Thanks A11y for organising that one.

That's mine, what's your best moment of 2010? Could be a new Zed, mod, trip, meet, a look, mega detail... anything...

July, near the top of the Stelvio.

My first and last will probably be picking it up tomorrow, hopefully with many years of enjoyment to come.

Good thread. Quite a few to choose from but my most memorable moments were from a couple of the forum meets...

The first one was on the buttertubs pass on the North Yorkshire meet last April(ish). I'd never been on it before but the undulations were like being on a rollercoaster, my passenger and I were pissing ourselves laughing at how much fun it was.

The second was on the way to the North Wales meet along the Woodhead Pass. I was behind Ed Butler, it was about 8am with no other traffic around (apart from Lucy, Paddy and PC Bung following!) and the cornering speeds were quite outrageous at times. Learnt a lot about the capabilities of my car on that particular morning. :driving:

Steaming from Calais to Tarbes (700 miles) overnight with the roof down all the way, then a road trip over the Pyrenees into Spain and back....

A couple of miles before the Bielsa tunnel (with the Redhead on board LOL):DSC_5466.jpg

The run to Skye in the summer, this picture of A11y just sums up what it's all about for me.

Great (seemingly clear) roads, great weather and great company roll on next summer.

PawnSacrifice, yes an excellent thread to close out the year...

Our local ZSCCA chapter had a number of excellent events this past year and a lot of great memories. It's really difficult to pick one however, if I must choose then it would be the National ZSCCA North East Regional cruiZe in West Virginia last May. That was 3 days of great driving in the mountains of West Virginia.

One of the very best things about owning a Zed is all of the great individuals you meet.

Like others when I got my Zed, 11th of March 2010, there he was in the show room all new and shiny, just wanting to go for a long drive but alas just the 3 miles back to work.

Now 21,000 miles later it is, by far and away the best car I have ever owned :D

Mine was the first moment I saw it; seriously.

From the moment I saw it stood there, I knew it HAD to be mine. Of course, as you do, I went and looked at other coupes, but I didn`t see any others that got me in the same way.

Okay, yes, I know it`s the same as any other silver-grey sport out there, but it was just THIS one that I saw first of all, and it just happened to be specced, (and priced) just as I wanted, and the deal was done.

What is also great about it is that it has so far proved to be my favourite car out of ALL the cars I`ve ever had, and believe me, I`ve owned a lot.

Well done BMW.........what a great car you made here ! 8)

Good thread! My moments revolve around the meets. How about rolling with 22 in Wales in April or 20 odd at the National meet.
Many thanks to all forum members I've met (inc 3 posters above ) and / or exchanged tips & banter with throughout the year - but especially you dear reader :D

Only picked my Z up about 8 weeks ago and haven't had much time to use it, It will be going over to France next year and I'm sure I'll join in on a few of the meets, roll on spring 2011

My Zed moment was driving the Canyons at Malibu during the ZFest this year, an incredible adrenalin rush  Going straight at a canyon wall at 40mph then doing a 120 degree turn without touching the brakes and then praising BMW and all available gods for not having me smash into the rock wall, then doing it again , and again for what seemed like a lifetime. I started to learn just what the E89 is capable of....

And being with 84 other Z cars was kind of a hoot too..

Well my favourite moment has to be driving away from David Holmes in April having purchased my M Coupe and knowing I'd got 50 miles of undulating roads across the Peak District back home. It was made all the more pleasurable by absolutely toasting some bloke in an E46 330i Convertible (roof down) who was trying to show off to the blonde in the passenger seat. He won't dice with a Z4MC again in a hurry. :driving:

Favorite pics include this one following it's detail....

And this one...the old girl...gone but not forgotten

Lastly, been to North Wales and Lake District this year where I happened to meet a few of these along with their very friendly owners

Good thread. May 2010 when I picked up my first Z4 (3.0 SMG), and then September 2010 -- the drive up to Wigan in my previous Z4 with a close mate to pick up the current Z4M! We had a mental blast down the M6 and a true moment of enlightenment the first time I properly opened the M up when we get through the tolls

My Eurotrip back in June. Nurburgring, Alps, Verona, Monaco, Reims.

Personal highlight was driving the San Bernadino Pass. Video here:

My fave best moment was my early morning trip to Talisker Distillery during the Skye meet, after a great drive up the day before with the Group I got up very early the next morning (the actual time is still under debate).
I headed off for talisker, about 5 / 6 miles away on a great road, wide open sweeping bends, you can take them with confident speed as you can see for miles, The sun was breaking across the coulands, Roof was down with just an early summer mornings chill, The sound of sraight 6 blended brilliantly with Pink floyd and the smell of a beutiful summers day ahead filled the air.
Just great.

Second was Chips in Anstruther

Great thread, and some truly amazing photos already
It's hard to decide...

Was it the view of Mont Blanc from August?

Or could it have been the opportunity directly to compare my two babies on the track?

Actually, it was absolutely trouncing the Porsche in the picture below, out braking him into a 180 degree hairpin at the end of a 130 mph straight :P
