Your quick wash n dry cycle - times

Leeds - you know where it is
Ok I've had a few practices now so wondered how I'm doing vis-a-vis you more seasoned pros!!

Just done a wash (2 bucket, mitt, soft shampoo), dry (patting with huge microfibre towel) and quick detailer wipe down. It was mostly just to remove the pollen and water spots with a bit of tree sap added into the mix. I'd machine polished last weekend and sealed (but no wax). Made the mistake of hosing the car down mid week and didn't dry her so there were water spots all over.

Time taken - just over an hour, call it 75 mins. I have a hose with variable spray head and it is sunny so obviously couldn't hang about too much.

Sound like a reasonable time to you? The results certainly make it look like it was a well spent hour(ish).

Sounds about right (me being a layman when it comes to detailing). Although my colour is very forgiving so drying doesn't usually have to be perfect to look ok, whereas if black I'm sure I'd find it a nightmare with the crappy water down here. The wash itself doesn't seem to take me long as I'm doing a pretty good job of not driving it in the rain/muddy roads so far.

I have no hose, so taking into account the time to drive to Sainsbury's to rinse the dirt off probably takes me 75 mins too.

I reckon the actual wash and dry only takes me 40 mins. Maybe a bit longer, CSLs are a PITA to clean.... :headbang:

Depends how sunny it is and how many of the neighbours are out. It's a Sunday social thing in our road, washing your P&G and cutting the front lawn. :D

I do get told off, for making it rain, when I wash the Zed mid week. Usualy just skirts, wheels and blast the flys off the grill, if I've been for an evening hoon. :driving:

The Polish guys did it in 30 mins while I tucked into bacon and eggs in the cafe

Can't have used quite so much acid if it still took them that long ;-)

90 min for me, black really is a nightmare and some swirls are developing even being as careful as I am.

Usual process for me.

Sonax wheel cleaner to clean wheels, using wheel woollies and a noodle mitt.
Apply Citrus pre wash and let to dwell for a few minutes
Rinse
2 bucket, with grit guard using a sheep mitt and Dodo Juice BTBM shampoo
Rinse
Dry using a damp plush microfibre towel
QD wipe
Go round and dry all sills and a quick wipe over of the engine bay and exhausts

Good responses class, thank you! Prob should've said I didn't bother with the 224s, they're still clean from last weekend. I agree the actual wash is quicker - maybe 30 mins by the time you've faffed around with the buckets etc.

Might do some photos for you - just on my phone atm and, whilst I'm sure I could sort this - it's just too nice out to not go for a spin!!

I think the best I've done is 90mins. Depends really - I usually take my time as I start whilst everyone's still in bed, so it can take a couple of hours. Wheels take at least 30-40mins of that... I think I need to find a new technique or set of tools. Takes another hour to do the interior properly, but I don't do that every time it's washed.

Hmmmm. Was thinking yesterday that I do miss the mirror finish on a polished and waxed black Z... That's gorgeous 8)

Bingy ... Don't be getting nostalgic. Check on your drive and you can still see a reflection like this

Yeah, I know.... It was not clean yesterday. And let's face it, nothing comes close to a perfectly cleaned black car, not even imola. What I don't miss is looking after it :headbang:

yes it is amazing, black paintwork that is, until the moment it rains, the moment it is bone dry with pollen or dust around, oh actually - usually by the time you've sat and watched it over a drink. the silvergrey at least still looks ok when dusty.

I've found a pad and compound solution that seems to work so mine will be de swirled soon :D

Struggling to get a good 50/50 though on this panel as it's one I've machined before

Silver Grey looks awesome, but black reflections are a different level.....where does the car end and floor begin
