I love them both. I tried to talk the wife into a coupe when she got her PT-Cruiser. No luck but I tried. I saw Rick Hunter’s coupe a couple of time in Seattle and just drooled all over it. I have never driven a Zed coupe but many other coupes like the Nissan 350Z and earlier Zs. I have owned two. But they are just coupes like any other rice box coupe.
If I didn’t have other cars, well maybe I would want a coupe. It is probably more practical. But my wife’s car is practical. My Mercedes is practical. The Zed coupe is an exception to this, but think of what they call in the Real Estate industry as curb appeal. When folks look at coupes they think and say nice car. When they see a roadster they think
nice sports car. Unless you are really into cars, especially performance cars, you would just think oh well just another BMW when looking at the coupe, but the convertible is a sports car. (Just my observation don’t kill me over it.)
I am old enough to remember when sports cars came to this country. They were MGs, Triumphs, Austin Healeys, they were basic vehicles. An engine, a transmission, brakes, bucket seats, and soft tops. Most of the time you even had to add an aftermarket radio. None of this computerized junk we have today. Even my Corvette, and my brother’s bathtub style Porsche were rag tops. I only add this to explain my point of reference.
But as I have said before, it really comes down to your need and life style. They both have their strong points, and how you will be using the particular Zed should determine your decision not just looks.
