Hi Guys, I thought I would add into this as I’ve have just had my motor fixed by an independent in Ringwood.

Firstly I had the usual problem; roof unclipped and went down a lot slower than normal, came back up only half way and died. I had to pull the hydraulic bypass cable to get it back up.

This happened in the summer last year and I had the top down frequently for about 2 months. It did not get significantly wet but alas the motor did have water damage due to the blocking of the wells. If the well is blocked completely a couple of drives in the rain could easily start the process of water seeping into the motor, I don’t think this is limited to cars sitting outside all the time.

I decided not to get it fixed after some crazy quotes around the 1.5/2k mark and some garages who said “never done one but I’ll have a go!”, also I could handle doing it manually now and again. But as summer is back with us and I’m off to Guernsey in a couple of weeks I needed it to get it fixed.

Found a great garage in Ringwood via a recommendation from my local MOT garage. It wasn’t as cheap as the place in Telford but I didn’t fancy a 400 mile round trip (especially if I had to take it back again for a fault). All in, parts, labour, diagnostic and including VAT I paid £725.

The guy has already done 4 of these jobs and he did a great job with mine in about 5 hours according to the invoice and let me use a nice Audi A3 as a courtesy car. They know what they are talking about and did pro job, I am usually one of these who complains about everything  but this guy was top notch.

So if you’re local to Dorset then I really recommend this place.
