Xenon Headlights - Aaaarghhh !

Bing, no my headlights are in the ON position not auto. Guess this disables the DRL's :idunno:

The message used by the Intravee to turn on the DRLs can also control the levelling function. I noticed this on my E39 when developing it so the Intravee now uses the values reported by the LCM to populate the bytes that in the E39 activated the levelling function. It's possible that the Z4 uses a different method to control the levelling, but I'm surprised that no one else has reported the problem.

Disabling all light control from the Intravee, or disabling all Extra Features by not accepting the disclaimer will stop the Intravee sending messages to the LCM. If the Intravee is difficult to get at it should be sufficient, another alternative would be to pull the fuse to the CDC, in the Z4 I'm not sure if this controls anything else.

Thanks Richard - I will disable everything first and see what happens. If it comes back I will pull the fuse (I'll check it's only the CD changer first). If the problem is fixed then that's cool, but a shame... I won't be admitting it to my indie though, else they will invoice me three full days of labour for wasting their time !

Still strange that it took a while to manifest, rather than being an immediate issue...

@Bing, you said that the cable came loose and was difficult to get back in - did the problem start after this? Just wondering if you may have a bit of a dodgy connection

The cable came out before mac updated it in May, because I had pulled the unit out a bit to try and figure out how to re-route the cables for my phone holder and the cable came loose. WB managed to get it back in - might even have been on the same day, but not after. It was difficult because I couldn't get my hand in. I will check the cable though

@Mac - yours is a prefacelift though, perhaps the coding is different ?

Like many mechanics, they are haters of the interweb. I mention the forum to them for fun now, just to see them roll their eyes. They're good guys. I feel really bad...

Oh, and it's 4 full days

For some reason Steve I thought that the 2006 and the 2007 LCM was different again, but can not find the link for that. Just that it might not be a 100% valid comparison.

Bing - suggest as other have done to disable that DSLR setting in the Intravee.

Interesting if the LCMs are different, that would maybe explain it.

I've disabled the function and the headlights are fine again... Though just switching it off and on again yesterday seemed to help. I'll report back if they go weird again, or if they stay fine for the week. Now I just need to decide whether to 'fess up to the garage or not... Probably won't have to - Autologic will come back with a query about aftermarket electronics and I'll be rumbled

Shame if it is the Intravee though, I like that function :(
