The downside is less traction due to less contact path at the rear tyres since they are skinnier which however I reduce by less camber.
Off topic, but this explains some mildly disturbing behaviour I noticed on my winter 17s the other day - 11 degrees (too warm for the tyres, I know), slightly damp but not wet roads, and gentle acceleration from stationary at lights = the traction control light flickered all the way into 2nd and I wiggled my way away from the lights at low speed. Not happened since, but I didn't notice this at all last year. Must be because I had an alignment done on my 18s in the summer when I had Eibachs fitted, haven't had it re-done for my 17s (does anybody ?) and so the camber has resulted in less grip. Logical if I'd thought about it
Still learning something every day![]()
My tc blinks all the time on my 18" winters.... sometimes hard shifting from 3rd to 4th even!
I presume its just too warm for winters... as my contact patch isnt much different (rears are 255 on my 18's, and 265 on my 19's)
