World Cup I love it!!

Sterling and Sturridge gave it a go, and breifly so did Lallana & Barkley, running directly at them, but as for the old stalwarts its still the negative, safe back passing and patient possession stuff. And before long they will have the new boys doing exactly the same.

All of those boys who went in 2010 ( Rooney, Gerrard, etc) and came back to make a public apology for lack of effort, should not have been on the plane this time. They had their chance.

Sadly, I now watch these games with a sense of amusement, to the point that I am actually willing on the opponents, for the satisfaction factor of being right about the difference between the media hype and the actual predictable results.

I even put a couple of quid on Italy and Uruguay to qualify yesterday. Shame Costa Rica hammered them, but if you watched Costa Rica yesterday, they were just direct. The hoofed it anywhere out of the back and their midfield chased or slotted through balls to the strikers. Their free kicks all got put into the six yard box to cause trouble, not blasted over the bar like Gerrards. Easy stuff ! None of this wide, patient build up nonsense !

Then to add insult to injury, Super Woy comes on the box with the predictable quotes like ' we can take a lot of Positives' and then says " Thats the best we ever played but the Italians were better" and " We dominated the play overall "...
Yeah but Woy, did you notice... WE LOST and have NO points on the board !

You can't win every game. Check Spain last time out. Lost to Switzerland, won the world cup.

Its one fucking game you bunch of bell sniffers  we'll beat uruguary and Costa Rica then everyone will be spunking in englands arse again.

Nice...
Well after failing to beat Equador, Honduros and Italy within a fortnight I make that THREE games.

we'll beat uruguary and Costa Rica then everyone will be spunking in englands arse again.
Perhaps that's why one watches rugby instead now. One simply doesn't do that sort of thing with the Chaps on a Saturday...

Ecuador and Honduras  you mean the 2 friendlies that meant nothing? I wouldn't risk injuring myself either in thise nothing games.

You forget the 2 friendlies before that (Denmark and Peru) which we won.

You seem like a very serious person. Lighten up.

Worst thing about last night's game was the crappy commentary. Just glad I'm watching the remaining games in Japanese!

Agree

Neville must be the most monochrome boring git ever to comment on a footy match.
Please BBC drop him.
Had to listen to the 5 live commentary for the 2nd half just couldn't listen to him drone on any longer.

Well we've won it once which is more than most nations can say and we damn near won it again in Italia 90 (still pains me to talk about that!!). I think this time out it's the start of a new era and I think it's going to be a positive one. I think we'll get out of the group and then it's a roller coaster where you hang on for the ride as long as you can.

Bradders i'm glad someone else said what I was thinking about blokes who don't like footie!

I thought we actually played quite well last night and the young lads coming through are a breath of fresh air, confident, not fazed by the occasion and not frightened to take the opposition on. For the first time in a long while at a major tournament we lost the game while trying to win rather than the usual losing whilst just playing not to lose and very defensive.
