Someone had to dig deep to come up with that one![]()
Didn't dig that deep....its a biological fact, as I'm sure you know, that trees absorb C02 during their lifetime then pump out the same amount again when they die and decay, but of course the carbon neutral argument only holds good when trees are planted specifically for burning. If you want to be truly neutral and not reliant on wood cut from existing sources that aren't being replenished, then either get yourself a wood (you can afford it pvr, you know it!) or plant your own.
I spent my birthday in mid-March three years ago in the bitterly freezing cold rain planting 100 x 1-metre ash saplings, 20 larch and some odds and sods I can't remember now. The lot cost me about £300 from a nursery in Bucks. It fricking killed me but I now cut down some of my existing ash trees (which grow like wildfire anyway and coppice fantastically) with no sense of guilt LOL.
Later I can cut some of the new trees as well but that 100 has fitted easily into about 0.8 of an acre with as much room again to spare without overcrowding, so planning another planting this year.
Frankly that lot probably covers me for driving the Zed and a lot more besides!
I'd love to be taking free power from the river as well, but with a rise and fall of 3-4 metres when it rains hard, its a bit difficult to know how to harness it without building a dam that the EA would probably shoot me for LOL.
