Wiper blades...

I have Bosch Super Plus wiper blades, stuck them on around about Oct/Nov last year, briefly changed to Goodyear aeros in June, then changed them back as they were lifting too much at speed. Recently they have become jerky on the up-sweep (not down) on both sides, and this is vexing me - it is distracting and they squeak :x

I have lifted them both off the screen and set them to running and there is no jerkiness, nice smooth motion from the motor. Worth saying the car has done 17,000 miles since I got a year ago, and has seen it's fair share of rain...

My question is, are wiper blades done after (less than) a year and need replacing ?

Surely not. Only a wiper blade company would suggest replacing that quickly! I would normally suggest cleaning the windscreen but knowing you, it's probably only 3 days since its last wash! Will wait for our more intelligent posters to tell you. It is very infuriating when they don't wiper properly. :headbang:

Have you cleaned the wiper blades with Methylated spirits. It works wonders.

Keep wiping the blades with a cloth soaked in meths until it is clean.

you will be surprised.

Like daria says give them a wipe

I used to just soak them in concentrated screen wash

Cheers guys

The car hasn't been washed since last weekend Putter Whore, though I usually give the wipers a clean

Haven't got meths, will white spirit do ? Also, perhaps re-applying rain-x will help...

NO. Meths only!!!!! only a quid and a half a bottle. you wont regret it!

Okay, think I got that Dario

Why not white spirit though - does it corrode the rubber ?

I replace mine annually as a matter of course - for the £20 cost it seems silly not to.

Although these Goodyear 'blade' ones I put on a few months back are likely to be going in the bin

I'm not sure, however Meths is alcohol based and white spirit is petroleum based.

If you've ever cleaned your hands with White Spirits you'll find that they always feel oily?

dario, yup, agree

mmm-five, I got them too, from Costco. Not good

Which aero blades ARE good though ?

I was using my wipers yesterday and heard a king of spring noise for the first 6 wipes ... it went away after a short while. Anyone else had this before? sounded like it was coming from the right wiper.

I was about to post about the exact same thing, squeaky Bosch blades, sounds like a mouse is in the cabin, driving me mad :headbang:

I have the bosche aero for 2 years maybe... No problems but i wipe them whenever i wash my car, with window cleaner

I ordered some Bosche Aero Twins last weekend from eBay, should've been with me Tuesday but never arrived... Then it rained all feckin' week and my ears hurt from squeaking. The better re-send quickly, driving me nuts :(

Still on my original set of wipers, no problems at all.

The original ones on my X5 were still on the car when I sold it at 7 years old. Never missed a beat and worked as good as when they were new. Why would you need to change every year ???

Is this a good time to confess that I don't drive with my outside shoes so my mats are new ...
