winter wheels - dates and updates

Winters being put on Friday morning: Avon Ice Touring

They are what I have - decent enough tyre for the price & realistic driving requirements, i.e. no properly enthusiastic driving :D

That's what I had on my Zed and I thought the same - however the Porker comes with 18" Michelin Pilot Alpin winters and they're the dogs danglies. Much more like summer tyres when pressing on, and if the budget's there then I'd get those next time. (They came to me second hand, so just got what I was given)

Yup... my Wintrac Extreme aren't a tyre to drive on enthusiastically, huge difference between them & the summer PS3's, though had some scary moments with the PS3's on ice in the early days, hence deffo winter tyre supporter

Yesterday was 12 degrees according to the car... Had a slippery moment with my winters... Didnt put too much throttle but managed to slide the rear out atleast 30 degrees around a roundabout! Lucky no car was beside me.

The tc light was blipping even at 50mph on the dual carriageway when i press the loud pedal a bit enthusiastically.

I'm guessing it was just too warm for my falkens at the moment.

Won't last

What's that, the tyres @ 12 degrees.... :poke:

Nah - won't be 12 degrees for much longer. While it is though, you may call me Granny Bing as I nurse my car round corners

Put my winters on today courtesy of a purchase from a certain Mr Wilks...

Apparently next weekend the weather is going to be a lot colder so will get a chance to see their effectiveness..

Still too warm down here to think about winters (and they'll end up on the F20 anyway), but here's the comparison from a test fitting after they were delivered

Summers - 19" Alpina Dynamics

Winters - 17" OZ Racing MSW Style 19

Winters on here - had some sideways action lately with wet, cold and greasy roads (too many early morning starts)

Grip levels are very good with my (newly acquired) GoodYear Ultragrip P2, on a set of Mr Wilks specials....

I'm thinking winters might be a good idea, even for a garage queen. Having not driven her for 2 weeks I was very thankful for both the LSD and traction control yesterday. There was a lot of squirming on some slippery roads under acceleration.

Temps have gone back up here, so I'm squirming round corners... Still, I reckon my 'track ready' summer rears would be worse :P

Perry- I am assuming that's a photoshop as your car doesn't move, and the shadows are in the same place! :D

No... and yes... sort of... it was a proper test fitting of the winters just after they were delivered.... but...

I only fitted them to one side so I could see how they would look and took two photos from the same place with the camera fixed on a tripod, the car hadn't moved but the shadows had which looked odd with a flick comparison - so I merged the base photographs to eliminate the changing shadows
