For winter, I'm treating my M Coupe to turning up the amazing heating!!!!!

yeah the heating is pretty epic isnt it. i started mine up today and it was getting warm before i'd had time to close the garage door and get back in.... In the diesel A3 i can get to work before it starts warming up!

Are our winters generally (the odd exception) that bad to warrant winter tyres though? I bet the guys in Canada laugh at us! ;-)

True, but I find us Brits have a misconception towards winter tyres, they think they're only for the snow when they're not. Any summer tyre whether normal or RF will perform poorly once temps drop below 7 deg C, i.e. braking distance is increased and their ability to tackle excess water is poorer which lets face it, cold temps and drenched roads are all were having at the moment. If I was driving a front wheel drive motor I probably wouldn't bother so much but rear wheel drive, low profile wide tyres with moderate power can be pants this time of year, even when driving to the conditions.
