Winter. Roof or no roof?

Having owned several convertibles over the years I've become a big fan of top down driving right through the winter as long as it's a dry, bright day.

I think people think I'm mad though but screw them, it makes me happy. I did 160 miles on Friday down the A1 with the top down and got some interesting looks around Newcastle, which is amusing since the geordie lasses are known for wearing no coats on a night out.

So... yay or nay to topless winter driving? I LOVE it!

No roof definitely if sunny day, might have to have a warm hat and heater on but still top down I love the feeling of openness and freedom.

+1 this is the reason I don't sorn mine as a clear winters day still tempts him out of the garage!

I can feel a poll coming on....a sunny winters day with the heated seats on is great roof down driving, it's a yes from me :driving:

Roof down every time  , I bought a hard top at the end of last winter and TBH I don't even know if I will even put it on as only tend to use the car when it's dry and bright.

Dry bright days, like it was here from lunch time onwards - YES roof down. :)

Damp foggy morning at 3 degrees like it was this morning, roof up. :(

Heated seats, wind deflector and warm hat are the necessaries!

And a stubby for less turbulence :P

Also not wearing other things on a night out !

Yes to roof down. A clear frosty starry night drive with roof down and heaters on full

I put my hardtop on a week last Friday and was feeling kinda smug as it proceeded to piss down every day for the following week - until this weekend :(
I have to say I'm enjoying the 'coupe' experience though :)

What about snow?

Some envious to$$er crossing the street on a zebra asked me what I thought I was doing with the roof down in this weather. My reply?

'It's ALWAYS summer in here mate!' bleedin' rocket polisher!

I'm still there with snow, although I tend not to drive through the rougher areas on those days as the street kids love a snowball challenge

Done 120 miles this afternoon topless 10 degrees, seats on & heater in the footwell's.
As long as it's not raining the roofs down, went topless in the snow last year, loved it!

Likewise, if I'm driving it, the roof is down, unless it's torrential. Even in heavy rain on the motorway, I'm topless!

Owning an S1 elise the roof is such a faf it's generally always off.. even when raining unless torrential.. so having owned the zed for the last couple of months it's great just letting the roof drop when possible.. also means I can now save the lotus for those early Sunday morning drives
Best of both worlds!

As a biker I enjoy the roof down experience no matter how cold the weather, mrs smartbear is less keen however

Topless everytime if it's dry. Did 80 miles round trip to the south coast yesterday. 10 degrees and hurricane Cuthbert blowing. Forgot the beanie so ears fell off mind

Ah, you're showing early symptoms of The Cooop, it's a bit like a mid-life crisis where the world looks too big and scary so you want to return to the womb, it's characterised by an initial yearning for small enclosed, airless spaces to make you feel safe...

Wash your mouth out with carbolic, take two paracetamol and go and lie down for a couple of hours in a cool dark place followed by a bracing top-down hoon and you should find that the feeling will pass...
