Windscreen trim (again)

Before you start, have a close look at the channel the trim sits in, in particular if there is any bonding sealant from the windscreen stopping the rubber surround seating correctly, if there is, carefully trim it with something sharp, any excess sealant will stop it seating.
Then follow your guide of choice with the lube of choice, washing up liquid does the job nicely.
If there is any bonding sealant bulging out it will make it a pain in the arse to fit it.

Hi Dark Diggler ,

Have you done this on your E86 as Barty is struggling to get his to fit and I mentioned about using a small sharp chisel to remove any old sealant but I believe he had removed it all but cant get it to push in properly . Please see links.

Hi bigwinn sorry to hijack your post but as it is to do with windscreen rubbers could you give any advise on this post by Barty as it would also help myself as I am due to do this soon .

Thanks

Just to centralise this subject rather than move it to the thread on my green machine; it does indeed come in 1 part. Cost me around 30 euros delivered. Problem I face is along the top: the gap between the windscreen and roof is just a smidge too narrow to get the rubber through and hooked underneath. I’ve used a fair amount of clay lube to try and slot it in; no dice.

What trick am I missing? Is there a particular order to get it seated properly? I.e.: roof side first, then screen, or perhaps vice versa?

Just looping back on this one gents- I noticed when I replaced Ians that there was difficulty seating it at the top of the screen, caused by sealant from (what I presume to be) previous windscreen replacement, which needed a little trimming with a blade

Once done it sat better

I had the same when I did my E91 and had to remove some sealant but the E86 was a different matter . I have had the E86 seal replaced now by a windscreen fitter and the windscreen had to come out . There was no way the seal was going to go in without removing the windscreen first . Fortunately the windscreen didn`t break and it now looks so much better

Seriously? Wow sorry to hear that but glad it’s all sorted
