Windscreen trim (again)

Question for those in the know

I’m trying to replace the trim that sits around the windscreen- 5 pieces I think? Badly cracked and one corner piece missing.

Top, 2x corner pieces and left/right of the screen

I thought I’d got the right part when I ordered 51317017021, part 2 on realoem diagram

But no- this is the heavy duty rubber that sits around the window apertures and seals the roof leading edge.

So- anyone know where I can source the right parts? Is this more of a glazing firm part as I can’t seem to find on realoem?

I’ve seen videos of the replacement of the beading and that looks like a one piece part?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

5 pieces?

I’ve got one, but don’t have it to hand. Ordered it a month back but just one of those jobs I’ve not prioritised. It’s only aesthetic after all.

It’s only one piece and is just the top and left and right sides. Not sure the corner piece is separate. I’ll take a look at the item number tomorrow, can check my invoice.

If you can wait a while I can get you pics of what I’ve got.

Hope all is well! Kis

Ah cheers bud that would be super useful-

I think it does all come as a single piece, just looks like 5 bits on the car!

Really appreciate it Kis!!

The part number is 51317017021 I just bought one from LLLParts.co.uk for £35.00 delivered, I think it comes from Germany. If you put your vin number in when ordering they will make sure they send the correct part.

That’s the one I bought- and that’s the one that (unless I’ve got the wrong number etc) is sat behind the trim, thicker rubber

I’ll take a pic in am

Pic 1 is what I’m looking for

Just to centralise this subject rather than move it to the thread on my green machine; it does indeed come in 1 part. Cost me around 30 euros delivered. Problem I face is along the top: the gap between the windscreen and roof is just a smidge too narrow to get the rubber through and hooked underneath. I’ve used a fair amount of clay lube to try and slot it in; no dice.

What trick am I missing? Is there a particular order to get it seated properly? I.e.: roof side first, then screen, or perhaps vice versa?

I'll let you guys know, I know we have now sourced the right part and will do a how to when fitted!

Did you look at the various videos online of how to do this>?

I have, which is why this is doing my head in :headbang: looks simple enough in the videos, and I feel confident in saying I’ve tackled more difficult jobs in the past.

The core issue for me is getting the rubber to slot through the gap between the screen and roof. Sides are a doddle

There is usually a tool for every application.
Try this ftw.

Have you also tried lubing up? I don't mean you, I mean the rubber. Try a smear of silicone grease.

[ref]Chris_D[/ref] Here I was getting all excited... Ho hum! :P

I've used the same lubricant we normally use while claying a car; extremely slippery and minimising the risk of marring/damage. Unfortunately, no dice. The tool you've shared looks interesting, will deffo take that onboard

By no chance have you done this yourself, and -if so- feel up for a rerun of that success?

Not on the zed but I replaced my E36 coupe windscreen trim with one of those tools. Worked a treat. The zed’s is on my to-do list, maybe next spring...

I will start a new post asking the question about replacing it on the E86 to see if we get any joy rather then hijacking your post any further as I am starting to think it may be slightly different to the E85 . Will be interesting to see how you get on with yours
