Windows and Speaker Questions

Hi All

Over the last couple of weeks i've noticed my drivers window is quite slow at going up/down compared to the passenger window. Takes about 50% longer to travel in comparison.

Well after a hoon this morning, I get back home and do both windows up, but the drivers side slowed right up and then stopped about 2 inches from the top. Didn't sound great either.

Wouldn't budge up anymore so went down a bit and then back up and it eventually went up but again not quickly or sounding very healthy.

I took the drivers door panel off to see if I could see the mechanism, but as expected it was all sealed in behind the foam backing.

Question then, do you think my regulator or motor is going/has gone? If so what's the cheapest way to replace and is it a DIY job or garage?

Second question, whilst I had the panel off I thought i'd measure up for adding a speaker into the door card. As I believe I have the basic 6 speaker setup, I was planning on running a speaker from the tweeter wire (which is full range) as others have done.

Ignoring the blue cable which is taped up (presume someone else has fitted their own speakers in the past) I noticed this cable was what looks like a speaker connector cable (the one im holding) which wasn't connected to anything.

I was under the impression the basic 6 speaker setup didnt have any cabling in place to add more speakers. Do you think I can use this cable or shall I just tap into the Tweeter cable as planned?

Most likely the cable on the way out ,that's why window is slow . New cable £24 and it's quite easy to replace .

Thanks Marius i'll have a look.

Anyone got any idea on what the blue connector is for?

The plug that you are holding will not fit the BMW factory speaker.

I'm also have the 6-speaker set-up and am going down the road of adding speakers into the gaps in the door, but I've actually bought a pair of BMW speakers from my local dealers. I took the door cards off this evening, but realised that I'll need a couple of 2.8mm female spade terminal to connect to each factory speaker (there are also BMW proprietary connectors on the back of the speaker, but there are separate plugs for each terminal, unlike the single plug that you are holding). They are now on order (good old eBay - where else can you order a pack of 2.8mm spade terminal and a roll of self-amalgamating tape at 10pm on a Sunday!)

So since my drivers window is playing up big time I tried to have a deeper look in the door. Quite difficult with all the foam stuck to the door.

Couldn't really see the mechanism or wire that is talked about above, but I spotted this white and yellow thing sitting in the bottom of the door completely loose. So i've pulled it out and taken some pics in the hope that someone can tell me what it is?

Any ideas?

I think the next step is to take the car to a garage to replace the window mechanics.

Thanks
