I was prompted to update my version of windows 10 a couple of days ago.

Since then, my desktop had gone crazy. It forgets passwords, constantly demands that I sign privacy agreements, and often signs me into my Microsoft account with an old account details.

Apparently Microsoft have admitted a bug with this version (2004), something to do with 'lost certificates' which is beyond my IT comprehension. They say they are 'working on it' :x

Anybody else suffering?
 
Hmm....I am still on 1909. There is a later version than 2004 maybe that has some fixes in it. Windows 10’s October 2020 Update, also known as the 20H2 update. The question is "Do you feel lucky?" :D
 
Yeah I read about 20H2, my update to 2004 was on November 2nd so I don’t know why I didn’t get the latest version.

You probably have to go through the upgrade path so you cannot jump from 1909 straight to 20H2. It is the MS way.
 
Mine updated to 2004 yesterday. Have not noticed any issues. I don't use any Microsoft accounts though. Can you un sync from your on line account and just run from your PC drives until the next update? Just a thought.
 
I Had a similar thing happen a few months ago. Widows update, then had to keep signing in to all my regular websites, forums etc.
Ended up doing a full reset without deleting any files. HP had to talk me through it on the phone but it all came good. Very frustrating though at the time. :headbang:
 
Every Microsoft update seems to f*ck something else up.

A few months ago my printer lost the ability to scan multiple pages to pdf, just single page jpeg or tiff files after a Windows 10 "upgrade". :headbang:

But I found some free software yesterday to fix that! :)

Then a week or two ago the header options in Excel all changed, but thankfully I managed to get my old ones back.

Reminds me of a conversation I had years ago with a computer boffin who said if Microsoft made an aeroplane he wouldn't get on it!

If MS made a aeroplane they would have nicked the design from Boeing.

They would have nicked it from Amstrad, unless they could have got it cheaper somewhere else. :lol:

Reminds me of this from a few years back, but worth repeating as I still think it's ironically funny:

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue.

For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

That made me chuckle!

Tell me about update 2004....randomly stops our work pc’s connecting to old shares on a 2003 server. It’s intermittent and no pattern.

(Yes, I know, 2003!!!! Migrating it next weekend hopefully)
 
I found a simple way to 'roll back' to my earlier version of Windows 10, through settings/recovery etc etc. This is only possible within 10 days of the update apparently, a copy of the previous OS is temporarily stored on the hard drive.

Glad to say everything seems back to normal, so far :thumbsup:
 
I've been running 2004 for 8 days without any problem. I have a 64-bit operating system which may, or may not be significant.

Interesting, my system is a Dell Inspiron 64 bit system with a 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD. The OS is mounted on the SSD.

It feels so good to get my computer back in a recognisable state. The upgrade to 2004 seemed to take over my system defaults, even to the extent of background, icons, fonts etc as well as demanding logging in to websites every time I visited them (including the Z4 Forum!).

I shall be very wary of upgrading again :)

Oh, it's a Dell I'm amazed it ever worked. :lol: :wink:
 
My daughter just mentioned that it will be the browser causing the issue, rather than Windows 10 OS. Interested to hear which browsers folks are using, that are having this problem?

I'm using Chrome and not having this problem.

I beg to differ.

Ok, that might play a part in it, but how can it be user error if everything works before the update and then following the update, doing things the same way gives different results?

And in our instance, it was intermittent and only affected those with that update. Not 100% conclusive as to the cause but considering they use login scripts, it couldn’t be user error.

The only user error was mine for not blocking it in WSUS....which I did soon after!
