Congrats on the job!WaZZZZman said:I made mine this weekend. It was not that hard to do. I can see a few ripples on the glass as I did my best to keep the lines cut cleanly. People that have seen it, think it looks great.![]()
Let me tell you the sad part.I got the Plexiglas at Home Depot. It comes with a protective cover so that scratches are not done while you are working on the piece. I got it all cut except for some fine sanding I was going to do on the edges and took the protective coating off the glass. When I did, I discovered a scratch.
It had to be there before I started working as the protective coating was intact with no scratches.
So now it looks very nice except for that one scratch. My wife says “don’t worry about it, nobody but you can see it”, but I know it is there. The good news is that the piece of Plexiglas I got, is large enough that I can do another one so I may just do that.

WaZZZZman said:Good news, could not stand it, the scratch. So I did one more with what I had left and this one is perfect. Even a nit picker like me could not find a flaw. The secret is to never ever take the protective cover off the Plexiglas until you are completely done. Including sanding and fine wet sanding the edges. Also when you cut the edges, I did it on a belt saw, cut just outside the lines. I then used a built sander, that I put upside down in a vise, locked the trigger on and sanded down to the outline I had marked on the Plexiglas protective covering. Really works slick. I spent too much time the first one trying to stay exactly on the line. By sanding down to the line if you get what I am saying you can see as the Plexiglas is sanded down to the guide lines. Plexiglas does not really cut, it melts and you have to pick off the melted pieces as you go. Really not hard to do. Took me less than an hour to do the second one.![]()
I ordered one of those decals off eBay that says “Roadster” on it that looks like cut glass. It is going to look first class, I think as nice as the expensive one. When I get it I will post photos. Thank you Kurts05Z4 for your help and inspiration. That is what this forum is for.![]()
