Hi All, sure this has been covered many times....
thoughts on the OEM wind deflector.. and can someone explain why you need different roll over hoop covers after fitting one ?

ta

Generally its thought not to be worth the money, but, it is removable, collapsable, and does the job. The roll hoop covers don't need to be replaced with new ones, you can drill the existing ones if you want. You must drill or replace because the anchor mounts screw into the roll hoops.

has anyone has experience on the clear laminate/plexi glass windbreaks? are they effective and do they mark easily?
thanks. :D

Hi kat, I used to have a clear flexi one before I bought the real bmw one. To me they both do the same job , but the bmw one looks better, the flexi one needed straps round the roll over bars and was not as tidy. In fact I think it is still lying in my garage but I don't think I have the straps for it. Happy to send it to you if you want or I can take a picture of it to show you.

Hey that chequered shirt is awesome...... sorry had to get that in. It kind of deflected my gaze.... ok very bad

Very nice deflector, slick appearance :D

The E89 is one of the few roadsters I've owned where I've never felt the need for the wind deflector. It's still in it's bag in the boot unused.

I think they do make a differance but as has been mentioned they are hugely expensive for what they are

£215 if ordered as original spec, or £1375 as part of the ridiculously overpriced "comfort package"!

I have the OEM and have to say I don't think it's very good, when I first collected the car I drove about 10 miles without it then realised and stopped and fitted it- didn't think it made much difference.
What it does do is limit the view through your rear view mirror, the black mesh does a great job of blurring your view! I would prefer a glass or clear plastic I think but they do an OEM version do they?

I test drove the SLK 55AMG before I brought the Z and that had a very effective glass (or plastic can't remember) wind deflector- not that that was enough to make me buy one of course!

The OEM BMW ones also have the black mesh inserts inside the roll hoops as well.

I think there's a huge difference with the deflector in, especially on the motorway.

Hi I bought a Perspex wind deflector for my E85 for £115 from Just Roadsters - after a year there were problems with the plastic straps that held it on but I have to say that the company were excellent at sorting the issue and I now have textile straps which are far more durable and have stopped all problems.

I've also bought a half cover for my Zed (£50) which I use quite often as the car stays at the front of the house and I'm hoping it might help with the issue of water ingress into the hood motor - we shall see.

My Perspex wind deflector doesn't cause restrictions with rear view and is a great deal cheaper than the OEM item - not certain if they do an E89 version though - worth a check perhaps.

I'd like to see your e89 coz you slag them off so much I'm sure you've got a wrong un :poke:

well if anyone has an E89 deflector gathering dust and looking for a new home.....

personally i have no hair left to blow around... but the other half however.......

found a new OEM on tbay at £95 + postage

I took the wind deflector off just to see how it detaches and it is clear it ha never been taken off the car by the previous owner as my hands were black!

It was so filthy! Had to steam clean it before putting it back on!

If you buy one from EBay, make sure it comes with the brackets as it is useless without them!

There's a wind deflector on eBay at the moment - guy has a separate listing for the brackets though :?

I will admit I dont remove mine , they dont feel robust enough to cope with to much man-handling (I will admit to being ham fisted)
