Wife wants more noise!!

Well she's only had the car a week and gave it a first topless run only yesterday, but within 5 miles Val announced that she'd like more noise from the exhaust! She used to work for Lotus and has fond memories of using the Elise and Evora on business trips and the presence they had. Apparently routes across Europe in the Evora were planned to include tunnels

So anyway, looking for sensible suggestions, on a bit of a budget, to increase the rasp from the back, without going over the top and without any annoying droning.

I followed all the DLV mods a year or so back but not really keen to be dispatching a back box and waiting for it to come back.

What's my best route to achieving a sportier note?

For clarification, it's the 53-plate 2.5i.

Sound generator mod first, exhaust mods later!

There's plenty of videos on the YouTube with different exhausts etc.

Reading up on it, I didn't think this one had the sound generator?

Back box bypass worked for me , sounded great and inexpensive ,i went with 2×1inch pipes
Do a search plenty of info on this mod .

Search for exhaust comparison thread in the last week or so. Has a YouTube video to compare stock vs modified.

Can be retro fitted.

Well she is Scottish. :D

Did you ever see the clip of the white van that launched over the roundabout on the A11 a couple of years back?
That's about a mile from my house and rumour has it Val's was the car he passed just before he lost control

I had a back box delete done at 1st Performance in The Fine City which cost £150 of which over a third was the exhaust tips that I specified. I love the noise as it brings out the inner yob in me but for a lot of people the accompanying drone on motorway driving may well be too much. It doesn't bother me as it is not as bad as some that I have had. I did look around (BSE Ipswich, Norwich) and people like Demand Eng. at Pettaugh would have made a brilliant custom system for £1k but my car is not worth that investment and propriety boxes again seemed quite costly when compared to what I wanted to achieve.

I would have probably in hindsight gone with a back box by-pass but this would have meant me getting my hands dirty or persuading a relative to do so and I would have used proper bent pipe rather than use the bendy pipe variety and then there is the question of how much stuffing to remove - a mate did this somewhile ago with his 993 Turbo - first attempt was wild, after three cuts and welds the sound was great but the exhaust was looking a little sad.

I was going to come to Beales on Saturday but daughter had an open day for Uni so that took priority but happy to meet up so your wife can have a drive or I will attempt to get to Beales at the end of the month.

Reverting to your wheels have you found out what they as I had several looks at mine and felt inadequate not filling the arches.

Hi, that is a very kind offer thanks.
I will speak to Val and see if she'd like to take you up on it.

I haven't had a chance to get the wheels off yet to read the markings. I will be sure to post the results when I do.

I think only the 3 litre engines had the sound generator, but I'm sure I read they can be retro-fitted to other 6 cylinder engines.

It might be worth asking Machine monkey if he has one on the car he is breaking.

Thanks.
Think I'll maybe take up NSM on his offer so Val can firstly hear what she's letting herself in for with the exhaust option. No rush right now. She's suffering from new-car-itis!

The 2.5's didnt have the sound generator but its an easy and cheap mod to do. You just need to change the rubber boot air intake pipe for a 3.0 one which has an additional 'T' off and add the bit that plugs into the bulkhead
