Why I chose the 2005 3.0 over the 2006 3.0si

In case anyone is curious - my reasoning:

Both have the same options. Both have the same miles. The 2005 was only about $2000 less than the 2006.

The 2006 may be faster, but there are more mods available for the 2005. I like to be able to check the oil via a real dipstick. I can add some dynamat to the 2005 doors to make them "thunk" like the 2006. I can add a 3.74 or 3.91 LSD to make the car must faster.

I like the 2005 color better. I've had black on black before, and it looks better than everything else out there for the first 15 minutes after being washed... after that - not so much. I love the triple black, but the dark silver is just hot. (or "hawt" as Ms. Hilton would say).

The dealer was sketchy about the 2006. I, amazingly, got a good feeling from the CarMax dealership.

Sadly, I like the post-facelift look better, but I will live. I would eventually like to add an M hood as I hear they fit. I love the double crease.

I'll post pictures as soon as I have my new baby/toy.

Thanks man, I'm looking forward to meeting you on a drive. We'll be moving to Denver sometime mid to late next year. I'll be in KC a lot more.

Considering the OG's in charge of the local chapter your presence (even a short stay) would be welcome. Perhaps when you have some idea when, we can get the good peeps together for a drive somewhere...Lawrence per chance. :D :D :D

OG's? Old Guys? Old Gansta's? Orange Geeks? Olive Gremlins? Ok, I give. What does "OG" mean?

You could get more HP Sauce in Lawrence.

ha ha... no need to justify your decision here! there's no wrong choice when it comes to the Z4! welcome and enjoy making your Z4 every bit "your" Z4. :)

i agree with you on the M bonnet... the double crease is damn fine looking (and smashingly compliments the creases on a coupe's roof). i'd do it myself, but struggle with the idea of professing an "M" image my 3.0 Si engine just can't back. :(

nevertheless, enjoy every mile! :D

Unless you work on or for BMW or actually drive one, no one is the wiser when it comes to adding an M hood/bonnet. I think those lines on it are just awesome.

hmm... that's likely quite true. and given the relative rarity of these cars, i guess most would only see the style. *heads off to source prices* :D
