Why Didn't you buy a Boxster?

I have already been down this road comparing the old Z4 with the Boxster and chose the Porsche after disasterous test drives in a Z4
I drove two as i couldn't believe how bad the first one was. felt like it had no suspension and rattled to hell. i put it down as a bad example but the second was just as bad! so bad that the test drive lasted only 2 miles before a took it bad
was really disapointed as always liked the look of the car but in this case the Boxster wins hands down
never drove an 'm' model or hardtop so maybe they are better

Thats exactly why I decided against a E89. My ///M rides much better than the later model Z4, that ride is just unacceptable IMHO. Why not a Boxster? Yawwwwnnn.. there 10 a penny round where I live, and the Caymann S like someone else mentioned is a coupe'.
 
Years ago I was set on getting a Boxter, but then I took one for a test drive and it just didn't feel right so I bought an Elise instead which did feel right.
Eight years in the Elise and it was time for a change and the Z4 was the only obvious choice. :driving:
 
Ubiquity is the main reason for me. There are so many on the roads now and the various series look so similar too. They aren't a special sight. The M is a rare sight and if I was changing to Porsche it would have to be the Cayman R, or more likely an older GT3, so that I can still feel like I'm driving something rather special. I guess the Boxster Spyder might come into that category too which is probably why Vroom has just changed his M Coupe for one. The M also appeals to me because it responds when you drive it like a hooligan - the owner has to put some proper effort in to get the rewards. I like that.

Up until the new 981 I think the Boxster has been pig-ugly as well but the new one looks fantastic and if the Cayman is similarly attractive I could well be tempted if they bring a limited edition R out again.
 
Running costs... my mate had one, and it nearly bankrupted him. He sold it on to a trader after 18 months, who then had to spend another £4k to get it prepped for resale. :o
 
Had a Boxster for my 30th as a present from the now ex wife.
Weekend hire, b4 you say I was mad to make her the ex lol! :D

My main reason for not getting one, was the seating position. I'm only 5'10 but the way I have my seat positioned, I couldn't get comfortable in it. The z4, seemed built for my seating position. :thumbsup:

only one porsche to have a gt3 and not the poor mans porsche the boxster to expensive not reliable enough.the m is a mad car but it is the the one for my wife and i.well built goes like s--t and wow what fun you have driving it. :thumbsup: :driving:
 
On this I would have to agree with Jezza at top gear. The ONLY reason that a person would by a boxster is that they can't afford a 911. :fuelfire: And he has a point. Where as the Zed M is the top of the range. And buying a 3.0 or 3.0si rather than an M. would be like a standard 911. :evil:
 
For the money, the M really is fantastic, in terms of performance, looks and the feeling you get from it, even from just from starting the thing up.

I wanted something not boring or like an Arse Hole... so the Boxter was out!
 
Had an MC for nearly five years, went out and bought a Spyder.

The MC was a huge amount of car but the Spyder is even rarer and wanted to try out a semi auto box so have PDK with chrono, is a phenomenal piece of engineering. Is it worth 2.5 MC's? Never! But it is a fantastic car that out handles and out rides the MC, with 95% of the engine. I've also turned 40 so it was a treat!!

The Spyder is one of my favorite recent Porsches. Make mine a manual please. Does it have A/C? Sort of needed out here!
 
As the OP has asked, I don't believe you can compare the e89 with the new Boxter, the Boxter was not n my radar when buying the zed, not jut because of the high miles I do and thus servicng costs but the overall purchase price of the car was significantly more.

Oh and don't get my started on the interior colour schemes, there are only two schemes that work, black and the black/silver two tone. The solid colours i.e. all red or beige would drive me insane.
 
when i bought my first e85 z4, it was a toss up between that and the older boxster but a few things swung in favour of the z4

1. price and servicing costs
2. looks, the porsche looks very average nowadays and you dont know if its coming or going. the z4 had bold styling and made a statement
3. performance, only the boxster s had decent performance, the rest were a bit poor and gave poor mpg
4. reliability. lots of horror stories whereas the z4 had hardly any
5. there were a lot of abused and crashed boxsters, not so many z4s
6. interior was very dull and bland..... the z4 to some extent but it looked better than the boxsters

overall the boxster may handle better but on the balance of things, the z4 is far better and easier to live with as an everyday car
 
For me it's mainly the cost issue.
With my budget, I'm either looking at a very nice top of the range (used) Z4 or a cheap and nasty boxter...

That and I've always wanted to own a BMW :D

Yeah, it's still going although it may appear dead as it's not the most active forum.

I just checked it out as I recognised the OPs username. Turns out his car was one of the ones I was seriously considering. It was a lovely car but ultimately not for me.
