Why Didn't you buy a Boxster?

Didn't Ted Bundy drive a Beetle. More or less a 911 isn't it :poke:

Regarding convertible 996/7s. They look like up turned bath tubs where as the Boxster looks better with it's top off.

Off topic, but I sold my low mileage SLK 320 because the local RAC had a Voodoo effigy of me in their cab! The electrics kept shutting-down & dumping me at junctions, fast lane or anywhere else that was bloody inconvenient or dangerous, which with an auto that locks-up is a nightmare. Merc and their auto-electrical specialist couldn't find the fault so I got a refund then a
Z4 :driving:
 
Boxster for me was twice the price for the same car/age etc, so didn't make sense, but it is a better car imo.......
 
price of parts, and if i'd buy a boxter i'd have to buy an older car then my Z.
and not to forget insurance. but i love 2012 boxter to be honest.
 
Because model for model the Z4 is better than a Boxster in most respects. The Boxster has better handling and better build quality but for absolutely everything else the BMW wins.
 
Everyone at work had either a Boxster or Boxster S, did I want to follow the herd...?.

Plus I love my ///M more than anything, it doesn't have that ridiculous steering wheel and that naff gear knob, and isn't driven by a lot of women. Grrr me man :)!
 
The performance and handling of the S interested me but the shape just does not look right from the side and back , the engine is hidden away , potential expensive maintenance, then my mate bought one he is highly delighted with it but for me it was a little cramped , the seat would not go down far enough so that was another 2 seat soft top off my list , then I drove an Z4 and I thought why didn't I look for one of these earler !! :D
 
It was a good drive but the interior was bland.

Externally, Looks like a 911..... No ID... :thumbsdown:
 
Interesting thread I am slowly working my way through 2 seater roadsters having a s2000, chimaera and now a z4! Boxster was going to be the next car but wondering weather it's worth the extra costs! Any one owned both? Is the boxster worth the extra cash?
 
Reliability. There are too many nasty stories with Boxster engines, except 987 gen2 onwards.

But I might still have one, if it is as good in the corners as all the magazines say. I have avoided test drives, but it is probably the time to clear that doubt...
 
Attitude, attitude, attitude. I went to the Porsche dealer to look at one and got so much of their nose up in the air attitude that I drove across town and ordered a new Z3M roadster. No regrets. When the Z4 came out I only had to think about some Porsche owners that I know to reinforce the decision to buy another BMW.
 
The main reason I didn't go for a Boxster was the potential for serious engine/gearbox problems. I also love the front engine RWD balance generally and although I've not driven a Boxster, I'd be worried that too much traction and too little power would be less fun than the Z4MR.

I guess added to that, I did 30,000 trouble free miles in my old E46 M3 with that sonorous S54 motor, so I felt the reliability was proven in the M car. It's also got one of the best engines I've ever had the pleasure of using and is fantastically responsive. I had to have an S54 back in my life. :)
 
Engine problems, not RMS but IMS and and bore scoring. Regardless of how the car is serviced/driven, just seems like potluck. Pity as they tick the right boxes for alot of stuff. boxa.net is a nice forum too
 
I was looking at Boxsters; couldn't really find one I wanted within budget. The base model Boxster is also surprisingly sluggish. It all worked out, because I'm thrilled with the Z4.
