............When you don't take the top down !

I cannot beleieve the number of convertibles (including a couple of Z4s ) that I have seen when it has been hot recently that still have the roof up. I reckon its about 50 -50, So I ask myself if the temeperature is 24 degrees and they still have the hood up when will they ever take the top down in this country?

I would like to see a law passed : All convertibles must have hood down unless it is raining!

There should be an auto rain hood sensor, hood set down in default mode, only works when its lashing down.

Should of bought a coupe

I just think that it should be an auto function, ignition on - roof opens - unless rain sensors detect significant rain levels. :)
I also think that convertibles should be allowed road tax reductions but for every day the car is on the road with the roof up there should be a penalty. Doesn't the mini have an 'openometer' all convertibles should have a similar feature

Spot on

The worst offenders in London seem to be Saab and SLK owners.
On my 9 mile commute to work through North London I must encounter 20+ convertibles daily and very rarely see one with the roof down. :o

I too have noticed a shocking number of rag top owners roof upwhen its been crazy hot.

Maybe it was short trips? and they figured not worth the 20 secs to raise and lower? Or failing that , they burn easily and no sun tun lotion?

If it's over 20 degrees and low wind the tops down, including motorway driving :driving:

If I'm taking a long drive I'll tend to leave it up. I've done the 3+ hours motorway driving topless before....as much fun as it was I wouldn't do it that often.

Yeah, long drives on the motorway aren't actually that nice with the top down, it's just a constant roar, uncomfortable, you get sunburned and you can't hear the stereo.

Motorway journeys and top down don't mix IMO!

Driving a ragtop is about having a choice. Much above 32 C and my top go up and the A/C goes on. However IMO some of the best driving is when the temp is between 4 C and 30 C.... :driving:

More speakers, hat, suncream, sorted!

Done plenty of 10 hours plus journeys all top down, never a problem. Gets claustrophobic with the top down...

When the weather is ok I always drive with the top down... Also on the highways... Last weekend I went to FOS, in total it was a 1.000km drive. The hood was never up (only when parked) and we enjoyed every minute of it... 8) IMO; When you don't exceed 160km/h (100 miles) you can still talk and listen to music. Note; when you are going faster, its nicer to have the roof up. When I drive alone on the highway for a very long time at high speed I put as set of custom made earplugs in my ears (they reduce wind noise)... Works great and keeps my ears safe

I did not find on my last trip to Germany that the noise increased above 100 mph though. The difference between 100 and 175 mph was in the noise value not a lot.

Still felt great top down though .... (even though you get no feeling in the top of your head).

If it's too hot I keep it up.

Also sometimes just leave it up for whatever other reason.

50:50 for me, but that is still down a lot of the time :D
