Why bother buying a convertibel?........

My roof is down whenever its not raining.

I find the Roadster far to hot to be in when the roof is up.

I just get a hot one on and have to get the roof down!

the novelty to always have the roof dropped has worn off.

:o Roof down is a way of life, a calling, an expression of self, a religion, the world is a better place with the roof down :)

I must be getting old.... or judging by the posts here... turning female

Doesnt anyone have the odd day when they dont want to be seen by other drivers?! - having a bad hair day, straight after football (so hot and sweaty) etc... so roof up adds to a bit of privacy!

I have mine down when the roof is dry and I am in a good mood, as if for whatever reason, don't feel right, roof has to stay up.

I have actually had a convertible owner tell me that they just wanted to say they owned one. And couldn't possibly put the top down. What a T**T

I have the roof down about 90% of the time. I even had the roof down while taking a family friend to Frankfurt airport via the autobahn. I did so while the boot had a suitcase. carry on bag, And a back back. Something the E89 can only dream of doing. :poke:

Cheers

Got it back asswards mate. If your in a bad mood, put the roof down. It's great therapy.

If your in a good mood, Put the roof down. Then you will be in a great mood.

Just had a lovely weeks holiday in Jersey with the roof up! Lovely hot sunny weather. The reason, the roof motor gave up the ghost the week before we were due to go.

What an awful design and manufacturing blunder by BMW. I wonder if the new model has the roof motor located in the "water bucket" and wether the drains have been improved upon?

Indeed that's the biggest downside of the metal folding roof on the E89 (and the extra weight)... With my Z4M I can take luggage for a sunny European road trip of two weeks and always drive with the roof down... If I do this with a E89 it will not be possible to take the same luggage or I have to keep the roof up all the time. No point in buying a roadster if you have to keep the roof up to put something more then a small bag in the trunk. When you put down the roof of the e89, your trunk space is almost the same as a Lotus Elise... For me personally the metal roof (and the less sporty set-up) are the main reasons why the e89 does not appeal to me  But who am I....a lot of people also find a Z4M repulsive  On the other hand; an E89 with the right wheels looks great!

Roadster bag has already been mentioned on the forum but i managed several trips away without any trouble (and mrs roofless doesn't pack light for Provence), 2 weeks around italy, switzerland, France etc and came back with 5 cases of wine plus extras and had the roof down all the time until the trip from the sud de france to calais. Having said that i didn't pack a cooker, kitchen sink or hairdryer :P

Here in Texas its mostly the 105 F heat that brings the tops up in the summer. But it dosent stop me. Even if its just a 10 minute trip...

Just a thought - Maybe some people should keep their top up. I've been to some of those clothing optional resorts and some people should do us all a favor and keep the top up. Oh - wait - we're talking another kind of top.

I enjoy convertibles for the same reason I enjoy motorcycles. When you're in a convertible with the top down, you are part of the environment you're passing through - seeing, smelling and feeling it. When you're in a hardtop you're inside a car, watching everything pass by outside your windows.

For me, convertibles have made for a lot of special moments - like powering through the twisties in the Rocky Mountains, with the top down. Blasted rock face on one side climbing to thousands of feet, and a sheer drop to the valley below on the other, getting splashed by waterfalls from the melting snowpack far above - all on a beautiful hot and sunny summer day. Or cruising along the highway beside the Pacific Ocean, smelling the salt air and watching the sea birds pivot overhead. Or traveling through the desert and watching the red glow of sunset wrap around the horizon as dusk falls and the stars star winking to life overhead. All special moments that I'll never forget, and made special by being part of the experience, in a convertible. I've done them all in hardtop cars as well, and it is NOT the same ...

Just come back from a 2 week trip to France with the wife. We had the roof down most of the time apart from when the temps went to 38 degrees, then the roof went up and the aircon went on,it was just too hot for roofless driving, we were getting burnt to a crisp.Somnetimes when I've got the dog in the car I'll have the roof up as the little bugger ( a Jack Russell) has tried to jump out when we come to a stop a couple of times. Also, long Motorway runs with the wife on board can be easier with the roof up, but when solo, it's down all the way.
