Why are there so many that don't go topless?

BMW 1 series and Mini's seem to be the main culprits. The amount I see on lovely warm days with the hoods up - what's the point!!

Think it might be the dull as ditchwater engine notes (135 and JCW aside perhaps) ....

Lol I was thinking this myself, people on the phone whilst driving or sitting up my arse would annoy me slightly more :)

Tim.

Agree..........................especially as my roof motor is broken and roof down and then back up manually for short journeys is a pain. Working motor and my roof would be down at every opportunity.

Having said that, I have no issue with those that choose roof up.

Cheers

I'm not of a fan of the bald guy wearing a hat while driving a convertible look.

What is "the bald guy wearing a hat while driving a convertible look"? Specifically, how can you tell he's bald, if he's wearing a hat?

It goes without saying that I speak as a bald guy.

After 6 years of ownership, the hood down novelty has worn off for me and I only lower it when the weather is particularly nice. I also tend to never have the hood down in built up areas as I'm a bit of an introvert and feel uneasy that people might be giving me hate-stares!

That's what Mike said. I'll remember that next time we are out in MY car and he protests at the roof going down :P

Z4s are not the worst offenders though; fewer than 10% of the convertible Minis we see on the road seem to understand there is a roof that can be lowered. And as for larger Mercedes and Audis - I think the dealers must superglue the buttons so the roof cannot be lowered.

+1 on this. On my North London commute I would say 95% of verts have their roofs up even in the glorious weather we had at the weekend.
Doesn't even bother me that some of the areas I drive through are a bit dodgy (Wood Green, Tottenham), the roof still comes down. :)

Agreed! Gosh - we must do a very similar commute!

I drive with the top down all the time sunny or not in Keighley West Yorkshire .i get comments all the time "dick head ,poser"even a cig flicked in to the car at the lights by some nice Asian lads .( in the s2000) drive 5 miles to Ilkley it's a different story all together .

I had a very long and full on work day today, but my roof down 10 mile drive back home suddenly improved my day. :)

i can only say that its no surprise as that is where all the asian inbreds come from..... funnily in the US, they are the opposite and have inbreds in the south.

i guess ive been lucky and never got called anything or i would probably got out the car and done something about it as i have a very short fuse when it comes to retards and their feel free to comment mouths

i was tempted to put the roof down on the way back from the gym tonight but it was too bright even with my sunnies on :?

It's the complete opposite for me, Asian/White Chav lads always say "nice car", and of course my natural answer is "you too bro". But then again I'm 26, and I've done a few mods to my e89 that most young guys would do if they had one.

I hope you're not one of those old bald guys that drives in an old convertible that looks around to see if anyone is impressed, in which case I'd flick you too brah.

If you wear a hat while driving a convertible then it's pretty obvious that you're probably bald and in a mid-life crisis phase, unless of course you have lots of front hair (like myself) or look too young to be bald.

After surgery I've found that I feel the cold more - 10c used to be the low temp for top off - now it's more like 15c with a wooly jumper!

On the flip side, I was in Switzerland a couple of years ago in scorching temps in a traffic holdup and it was as hot ! The roof was off and the aircon on full blast at the chest area.

Clearly not the same spot as ones in Scotland and one in England but uncanny how the highlands and the Lake District can look almost the same.

This is right I think; for me the Zed is not my daily driver so whenever I get in and drive it it's because I want to. Roof down is part of that. When I used a convertible as my daily driver for a couple of years (Audi S4) the novelty wore off quite quickly and it became a PITA really. So I vowed not to buy another roadster until I could afford it as a second car (or third if you count SWMBO's)

im also a bald guy and today i wore my cap as i drove to work converted. i am also asian and "middle aged" with lots of kids. wow i am THE ULTIMATE STEREOTYPE. the reason i wear a cap is for 2 reasons: 1. sun directly hits the skin on my scalp and although melanoma incidence is rarer in darker skin types its not zero (plus i have a family history) 2. helps with sun glare

please dont judge us baldies before you get to know us ...

oh and i convert whenever i can - even late at night. love the roof down experience. but like most things its a personal choice :driving:
