Who's Counting? Fess up to Points!

Clean at the moment but had a very lucky escape a couple of months ago, came off a slip road to be met with a completely empty 3 lane dual carriageway and proceeded up to the vmax for a Z4MR,then slowed down as it returns to 2 lanes then i notice the blues and twos rapidly approaching.Single copper, not traffic dept,1.6 ford focus, extremely pissed off and rather red about the face gave me a bollocking and was trying to get me to tell him how fast i was actually going.Seems he had just appeared as i had started to go for it and i reckon it must have taken him the best part of 5 miles to catch me   :P .

Moral of the story is,REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR MIRRORS CAREFULLY

Clean at the moment but had up to 9 points a few years ago! The camera vans seem to have given up near me these days and some of the fixed cameras have been removed also! And, of course, I've slowed down now!

On the M6 Toll? Glad you told me, I always push it on there, the 50 or so times I have used it......I've done 140 kPH on there......
:o I've used the toll road once - it was totally empty of vehicles on a dry sunny day with no evidence of cameras, so I pressed on a little....I'm pretty sure the limiter doesn't activate in fifth as the speedo read just over !70 mph

I managed over 14 years of enthusiastic driving without getting any points, mainly by keeping my eyes open and only driving quickly when it was absolutely safe. I was then stopped by an unmarked 335d after averaging 108 over five miles on the M4. We were the only cars on the road and I'd thought we were having fun...I was given 3 points and advised "stick to 85mph like everyone else"! I was very lucky not to get a ban or even a dangerous driving charge. It certainly made me think about my driving style as previously I'd thought I was immune to prosecution and would routinely drive on empty motorways well into three figures.

Very much like me, and even up until today....my own post has made me realise I need to ease off a little, and it's easy to do 40 in a 30, or 50 on a 40 etc.....

That's why my fuel consumption is 20mpg!!

Can't remember the last time my licence was clean. The result of doing a highly stressful job with a lot of travelling for many years.

When much younger I did get 5 points and a hefty fine for undertaking a Granada that was hogging the outside lane while the middle lane was clear - few minutes later he came tearing up behind me flashing his lights so I gave him the finger.

Not a good idea with an unmarked car containing two cops, one of whom was the Chief Inspector in charge of traffic for Devon and Cornwall...

The M6T runs within a mile of my house. It's a prime piece of road to not only speed on but get ticketted. Lots of unmarked cars cruise it.

People have this feeling that because it's largely clear and they paid it's a free zone to speed. In fact something like 95% of trafic exceeds the limit. Google speeding M6 Toll to see how many results it returns..
Blimey! I went to the TT last year on my bike and had problems at the booth, my mates did not! We weren't hanging about anyway, so I had to do (a lot) to catch them!!

I got 3 points for speeding in 2004 and was got again a couple of months ago but took the course instead of the points.

The strange thing is the first time I was stopped I was doing 46 in a 30, and recently it was 46 in a 40. I guess I really like going 46 haha

I passed a (marked  ) police bike on his near side since he insisted on doing 60mph in the middle lane of the A3... We then stopped and had a rather lovely chat about the highway code definition of undertaking before agreeing to disagree and going our separate ways

I got caught a few years ago on the bike. The road (the avenue) in Fareham is a mixture of 30 and 40. Anyway the van was parked facing the wrong way parked on my side of the road just before a set of traffic lights, I didn't realise it was a camera van and got caught doing 36 (thinking its a 40 anyway) whilst stopping for the lights and 40 when I pulled away!!!!! I phone and complained and said the location was wrong due to the illegal parking and with it being so close to the traffic lights! The lady very kindly wrote off the 40 and I did the speed awareness course for the 36. If I had fought it I think I would've got off on a technicality but wasn't prepared to take the risk!

Passed my test at 19 and 3 months later I picked up 3 points..

Luckily im much older and wiser now and they have been "wiped"

I got 3 points and an £85 fine 30 yrs ago (£85 was 2 weeks apprentice wages then!) for overtaking the vehicle closest to a pedestrian crossing of all things. It was plod on a bike and I was on a bike too. He was completely humourless.

On the flip side, I joined the M5 very early one morning in my Rover 620ti and went for it. I was doing well over 100 at the bottom of the slip road and probably doing 120 when I noticed a red Vauxhall Senator keeping pace and backed right off. After about a mile it lit up like a Christmas tree and I figured I was in the s**t. I got out of the car and my opening words were "it's a fair cop". The guy was brilliant, he invited me into the office, said he'd pulled me for a defective light cluster and would I mind keeping an eye on the speed in the future. He then wanted to know about the car (they were new out at the time and bloody quick) and we spent 20 minutes talking about cars and bikes. Let off with a producer to prove the light had been fixed.

A friends dad was a class 1 driving instructor and took me out to show me how to read the road and get places quicker without necessarily being faster just after I passed my test. Those were invaluable lessons and I use them every day. Having been told about the things those guys have to do at the scene of an RTA I can completely understand why they can get arsey if we're being arses in our cars

I was banned doing 120 on an april morning on the a68 dual carriageway errrrr about 16 years ago... 250 fine banned for a month then had years of having to declare it on my licence to which the insurers enjoyed loading my premium..... it wasn't until they changed the rules to only have to declare a speeding ban if in the last 5 years that my premiums became sensible...... my own fault in my defense it was 7 in the morning on a sunny Sunday and the roads were empty......

the annoying thing was that a woman who was up before me received the same sentece/punishment... i was 50 over the limit on a dual carriageway,, she was doing 70 in a 30 limit :headbang:

Respect!

nul poin

:P And it is a mystery.

I did once say -
What do I care about you cleaning up after accidents that is what we pay you for.
Just give me the effin points because you are boring the arse off me.

Possibly a bit harsh but I really couldn't be doing with his whinging.
I am normally very polite but

I know they find it unpleasant. It is understandable but all the same they don't have to do the job. I want a clear assessment of my driving, if I was a danger then action should be taken. If I was no threat then they should leave well alone or go through the motions. Using their powers of discretion to impose a tedious whine about their personal trauma is unprofessional.

interesting thread...

Passed in 1992 and have never been pulled for speeding, and have never received any points. I did the IAM test in 1994 and that has helped alot - observation is the key, and we never stop learning :driving:
