Give over man, or are you getting in touch with femine side ready for the drag run :poke:

Well back in the UK now and missed Irene, the Zeds currently in the stealership having an Insp 2, just need to give it a bloody clean over the next couple of days weather permitting.

Right - I'm in packing mode, found my ferry ticket and hotel booking (how organised am I!) and put the camera onto charge.

Anyone with advice as to the best way to travel north via A1 - stick with it through Northumbria, or bail across to the M6 via the A66 at Scotch Corner? Last time we came we took the scenic route, but as I'll be travelling solo early evening I guess the scenery will have to take second best!

Not really sure I know the A1 is a PITA but it just strikes me that to come across the A66 you seem to be covering a lot of ground, 233.1 miles, 3 hr 42 min.
Just shows what I know A1, Scotch Corner, Berwick etc 253.4 miles, 4 hr 14 min
Just stuck it into a route finder and it suggests leaving Guiseley on the A65 to High Biggins then up the A683 to pick up the M6 in the south lakes, 211.5 miles, 3 hr 35 min.
Think I'd be taking the 3rd option the M6 tends to pretty clear from there all the traffic having disappeared into Manchester and Lancaster, and the A1 once you are past Nerwcastle least said about that the better, guess it all depends how much of a rush you are in.

From Ashford to Kennacraig : M6 or A1 ?
What about speed cameras on highways in UK ?
Any good application on Android to be warned of these nasty things ?

A bit like Guiseleys question, To be honest which ever way you choose is pretty grim until you are past Lancaster on the M6 or Newcastle on the A1.
The M6 through the Lake District is usually quiet and quite scenic, but the A1 north of Newcastle becomes single carrigeway and can become incredibly frustating when stuck behind slow moving vehicles.
Permanent Cameras on the Motorways do exist but are unusal exept in variable limits (they change the speed limit depending on how heavy the traffic is in some areas), what you may see is a van parked on a bridge sometimes with the side door open and it may have a camera inside it, again the A1 has more cameras on it and loads North of Newcastle, they tend to be well signposted and painted bright yellow. If you are using a GPS the camera sites are usually preprogrammed on them, as for the Android apps I'm guessing there are loads but no idea which is good or which is bad.

On another note I have a funny shaped football I'll bring along for a laugh.

Well that's the car washed in anticipation. Hopefully will have another chance to give it a quick wash and wax on Thursday (weather permitting) but at least it looks vaguely presentable at the moment.

Now just have three night shifts to get out of the way before I can relax...

Excellent, couple days in the office and then begins my voyage north :D

Staying in Falkirk on Thursday night. One thing I'm not sure about, supper. Are we eating at the hotel one night? Also, breakfast, do I need to stock up at some point?

Finally, if you chaps could sort out the weather, some sun for us, that would be greatly appreciated 8)

So looking at the weather forecast who's bringing the deck of cards :poke:

JP would you still like the red 3rd brake light sitting in my garage

RichardG Good detective work, but I'm leaving from Morley right next to the A1:M1 link road, so it's A1 or A1:A66 as I'm not heading across to Manchester at rush hour for anyone, and commuting back to Guiseley adds another hour.

Ho hum - might try to arrange a meeting in our Edinburgh depot on Thursday instead!

Have booked the hotel bar supper for the Friday night mate, Saturday is weather dependant on wether or not it is suitable for a beach BBQ camp fire type thing or if we head for a Chippy or cook for yourself, There is a cafe type thing on the campsite, so it is pretty much make a decision on the day type Idea.
As for lunch on the Saturday, as far as I can remember there are plenty of places on the Island to grab a bite.
I am intending to bring along some burgers and chicken to cook up on my disposable BBQs i will be bringing, Bacon for breaky and of course tea coffee etc. again you can get breakfast at the camp cafe place. bags o sweeties and a deck o cards and poker chips

Gas stove - yup
Coffee - yup
Cereal bars - easier than cereal + milk
Burgers - why not
BBQ - hopefully
Alcoholic beverages - hell yeah :)

For the BBQ, can i count on someone to think about something for the two frenchies ? :D
I don't think bringing burgers all the way from France is a good idea (if it's even legal at all... :P ).
As for the beverages, i'm sure we can provide a bottle of wine or two.

Aaaaahhh! changing the rules you swine, in that case A1 - A66 it's a no-brainer A1 all the way is just soul destroying.

Might have made a mistake with our new tent and sleeping bags, to say there is not much room left is an understatement and that's without the 37 pairs of shoes and 57 changes of clothes for SWMBO, about to go for practice pack no.3 to see if I can achieve some more space from nothing  .

Edit
Now at the taking things out of containers stage and cramming them into every available nook and cranny

sorted

I just hope that bbq food is readily for sale on Islay if weather permits - all my zed's nooks and crannies are jammed full (or maybe just full of jam ) with no room for even a sausage let alone down time /rain time entertainment - maybe packing 2 camp chairs and a table is a bit optimistic... anyone got the game "Articulate" ? it's a laugh - cos I'm rubbish at card games . . .

Think I'll need to to empty the first aid kit below the passenger seat (stuff is probably past it's use by date anyway). Didn't someone once mention a support vehicle ? sounds like a fine idea to me

Looking forward to Friday - must make a point not to injur myself at tennis tonight.. see you all soon :driving:

Think there is a supermarket of sorts in Port ellen, though it has been 20 years since I have been there so every chance that Tesco and co have invaded.

Just checked t'internet, apparently the largest shop on Islay is a Co-op in Bowmore, not far from the campsite :)

There are two co-operative food stores on Islay, you can get all the usual stuff.

There are however some really nice places to eat and drink too so don't worry too much if the weathers bad.

Really wish I was coming too

1 more day and then I pick my Z4 up :D
