I had to stop trying, I was getting close to that "reach for the hammer" point of frustration.

Ah, that reminds me to look for my rubber mallet rather than bringing the mini-sledgehammer this timejaxZ4 said:we've all been there - a rubber faced camping mallet is somewhat safer though . . .

Hello,
I am writing To ask for some information and advice, I have organised a trip to Islay for a BMW Z4 car club of which I am a member, our tripped is planned for the weekend of September 2nd, 3rd, departing on Sunday 4th, we have members worldwide, There are 11 cars and 19 people coming on the trip all from the British Isles and one coming over from France. The majority of us are staying at the Port Mor campsite during our stay. The intention of the trip is to basically have some relaxation time, tour the Island and one or two distillerys.
I have contacted the Islay airport manager to ask if access to the Runway would be possible, which I am told it is, but the costs of the required Insurances etc has put this beyond our reach.
I am now wondering if the ICC allow access onto any of the beaches with cars, I realise this question will raise others in regards to environmental issues. If access is allowed it would be our intention to drive along the beaches for photography of the cars, In regards to the envrionment we would only be looking to take photos and memorys and leave nothing but tyre tracks. we fully accept that any break downs would be our responsibility to deal with.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Steve
Hello Stephen
Sounds like a great idea for a holiday!
The beaches on Islay, as they are throughout Scotland, are owned by private land-owners above the high-water mark. Islay does have long and sandy beaches, but access for cars etc has never been encouraged, I would say positively discouraged. There are many rare birds which nest around the shores and Machir some of which are protected.
I think the short answer Stephen is that cars on any beach on Islay would not go down well and not endear you with the locals.
However, if you enjoy off-roading, then our roads are the equivalent of this so drive around Islay and enjoy.
I hope you guys still come over for some fun, Islay is beautiful, its people are welcoming and the whisky second to none. I shall keep an eye out for you and maybe say hello.
Best wishes for a good time.
Regards

Hi Hamish,
No problem and fully understand the reasons for no access, it was worth asking though.
I have been to Islay twice before many years ago and know there are plenty of other places on Islay for some great photography shots.
Your comment about the "off roading" on your roads is somewhat worrying as the cars all low slung sports cars, in other words we live in fear of potholes.
We are looking forward to the trip and the Craic, I doubt you will see us up and about on the roads early in the day as I suspect there may one or two drinks invloved the night before.
Regards
Steve
Hi Stephen
We do have problems with pot-holes but my comment was a degree tongue in cheek. Have a great time.
Cheers
Hamish

Genius! Genuinely LOLing hereHowever, if you enjoy off-roading, then our roads are the equivalent of this so drive around Islay and enjoy.

Suspect I won't decide until closer to the time, the shortlist is still a 996 Carrera Targa or a Z4M, but we'll have to see
I've just brought this back home today http://yfrog.com/kl46duzj which at least has nearly the right engine and possibly some of the same suspension components as the Z4, that should get me through the winter and then I can look at proper cars in Jan![]()

Googlemaps says 2hr4min from Stirling to Inverary, although I'm unsure on the exact route we're taking. So we should be passing through roughly around 10.30am - might be quicker depending on what definition of "making progress" we all takeBradders75 said:I'll hopefully be meeting up with you guys on the Friday morning run to Kennacraig somewhere around Inveraray. Any idea on the time you'll all be passing through? If Ally/Guiseley or someone else who has my number could drop me a text when you're approaching, that would be great.![]()
