Hi, going to buy me a trolley jack so I can lift the Zed up for fitting my spacers . Any recommendations?
Thanks

I havent made a purchase yet but was looking at the low profile one from sgs as it would be a rarely used item so didnt want to spend loads. Be interested to hear others views

I can highly recommend the SGS low profile one! We have one, the other half’s dad has two - they are that good. Quality bit of kit and come in a handy case too. You need one (or two) in your life!

I've got the SGS you have linked to. Nice to use particularly with the swivelling handle that helps in tight spaces. I had a small problem with mine after a couple years where it was very slowly dropping (a few mm in half hour) but it was easily sorted by topping the fluid and venting air properly. A quick email and instructions from SGS soon sorted and no problem since. SGS support was good

.......... Oh and it's cheap for what it is at that price.

I have the one from costco. It's brilliant and a very good bit of kit.

I also have the sgs low profile, and when I've used it is very good. However I don't do my own work so don't use it often enough to comment on longevity

I've got an sgs one too, that same one you linked, had it for over a year and must've used it 30+ times and it's perfect.

SGS jack looks a good option, I have a similar unit from Halfords that is fine, probably from same origin.
Don't forget to use a BMW jack adaptor, about £4.00 off ebay.

I am looking to get a new jack also and have been looking around at different makes. Not really trusting my cheap Halfords jack anymore and its only a 2 ton jack.
I need a 3 ton low profile so it can be used on the Z4 and the X6 but SGS seem to get some negative reviews.
Anybody know anything about Hawk Tools? They seem to do similar jacks to SGS at around the same price.

I have the (older) model of that, which I think is better, in that it's all aluminium (apart from the ram/pump/pins etc) and as such is a lot lighter than the one Costco now sell. Indeed I bought another one the same as linked last year, before I got the lift, but it had to go back as was just too heavy. The "old" Alcan one can be lifted easily with one hand..

That SGS one looks good value for DIY though, might get one just to keep in the van for that price!

I had the SGS but found I was using it quite a lot and wanted something that lifted higher and with less effort. Got a Clarke Ali race jack from Machine Mart when they had VAT free weekend, great bit of kit. Think they only do 1.25t now for about £120.

You should be fine with 2 ton as your never going to lift the entire X6 st once, just one corner or half the car at the most. Check sgs website and they'll confirm this I think.

For occasional home use the sgs is fine, ive used mine several times since i bought it.

The problem is the 2 ton jack I have at the moment is twisting slightly out of shape when lifting the Z4 never mind the X6.
I am assuming that it is because it is just a cheap jack.
You are right though a 2 ton should be enough and 3 ton would be a bit overkill.
Reviews on the SGS jacks seem to say that over time they don't stay raised for long even if hardly used.

I have something like the one beng linked to but the front wheel is one big roller which helps reduce indentations in tarmac. You can use a plank underneath to solve that problem though.

The one I have has a long handle and goes up much faster due to a more direct ram. Also not really a big deal compared to SGS. The main reason I'd spend the extra over SGS/Halfords is that the rear wheels aren't very sturdy and the sheet metal can bend after a lot of use.

This,

SGS jacks not the same level as this IMO, SGS customer service is shocking too!

These were £71.99 inc Vat last week on special so I picked one up.

I got the draper low profile expert when it was on a flash sale on amazon steal at the time at £104

Plus it’s a really solid and great jack

Just ordered one of the SGS ones so will see how it goes. It won't get much use but handy to have.
Thanks for everyone's input
